Set Default Email Handler in Windows to use Gmail with Mailto Updater

On browser like Firefox & Internet Explorer you can easily change default mail application for mailto links. Similarly on Windows whenever you click on mailto links within any application or documents it opens default email client Outlook.
There are number users who want to change this behavior to use Gmail or Google Apps for domain to send emails. Unfortunately there is no option in control panel which allows you to change this setting.
