  1. To tell the truth, Firefox 3 is very stable and has not crashed even once on me. I am an Opera fan, but even I will admit that Firefox 3 is very good and works great. I have been using it on my system intermittently since version 3 came out.

  2. AVG8 has a link scanner that will drop FF3 to its knees (crash). Disable link scanning and all will be well.

  3. does anyone know why i cant update to FF 3 ive installed it today
and it simply wont start, i get a few seconds of “hourglass” cursor
    then nothing…
check task manager … and yupp says Firefox running.. but no sign of it

nothing on a Google for that issue on Xp sp3
no fix finally find a link to download FF 2 …which ( so far is fine)

  4. Ive downloaded so many things in the past and installed but firefox 3 seems so problem ridden ,even the experts are mystified,I drive a car and never get under the bonnet,Ive always done that with windows.Firefox 3 was teriffic when it worked but I wish someone would tell them how many millions are waiting for foolproof ff3
Same with Skype there are millions whove just given up trying to pay
    Gerry

  5. Extension…the real culprits to the Firefox world and the real points of Firefox. It is a big dilemma, and well, Opera seems to be a winner here.

  6. Yes, Firefox 3.0 on openSUSE Linux is just painful. I’ve had four crashes on the Huffington Post in the last five minutes.

I would say it’s very likely that Firefox 3 JavaScript handling is the problem. I have an number of extensions installed, but almost all are related to file downloading. My main media player is mplayer which handles most media. But when Firefox crashes merely during a page load, it has to be JavaScript as the culprit or some other page handling bug.

If it keeps up, I’m going to have to downgrade back to 2.0.0.16. I should have known better than to install a .0 release of anything – it’s ALWAYS a bad idea. That’s why I’m not upgrading my OpenSUSE 10.3 to 11.0 for several months.

  7. hey guys, i have recently applied the “21 tweaks for firefox 3.0” and modified it to prevent it from crashing, but now i’m running into an other strange problem, it takes me FOREVER to load flash pages. is anyone else having these problems? or does anyone have suggestions on how to fix them??

  8. Opera Rules…. Firefox is nothing but a hypebox…… I use Opera (Awesome and INNOVATIVE browser) for normal surfing & use FF only when I need those gory and heavy extensions…..

  9. Richard Steven Hack, I use fx3 on Suse 10.3 and 11.0 and all is ok. Maybe upgrade to 11.0 will solve your problem.

For those Opera lovers, for what I would want a bag full of things that I’ll never use?

  10. I don’t have any problems at all with firefox 3
    no problems with extensions
and no problems with my adblock plus.
    never crashes.
    works perfectly.

    however…

when im on someone elses computer who is not computer savy
Im going through the same steps I took
so i instal firefox 3 and when the box pops up ‘missing plug in’s” and it wont install the missing plug in’s. we down load the plug ins but they still no luck. I figured out how to fix the adblock plus issue but the flsah is still a mystery. *shrugs* ill keep digging for answers.

I don’t know why I didn’t have any of these problems, maybe because I had all the extensions and add-on’s in the older versions of fire fox. And it kept it all as it upgraded?
    *shrugs*

  11. jamesacoberly[at]yahoo.com

Here’s the fix: I had the same problem as many of you. Made no changes to extensions or anything, and after time, Firefox started hanging.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, etc and nothing worked.

I went through the hassle of setting up an entirely new profile, and while I was importing over my history, I found the problem!

Delete your old history (I suggest everything over 6 days old unless you need it), then set the number of days of history to save (in options) to fewer days (I wouldn’t go with more than 20).

That should fix the “mysterious” hanging problem without having to go through the trouble of setting up a whole new profile like I did.

  12. I’m having an issue with Firefox Portable. It won’t start. When I double-click it, a window pops up right away saying “Firefox stopped working….” This happened with FF2, I removed it from my flash drive and installed FF3 which worked for a few days, but no I’m having the same thing again. Starting FF in safe mode doesn’t change this behavior. Any ideas?

  13. I have upgraded eagerly to Firefox 3 on my Lap Xp and my PC Vista home and it has been a night mare since! Never had ANY problems with Firefox 2 on the same machines and same addons/plugins.
I had installed COLOURFULL TABS which I adore,
“All in One Sidebar” that I find so helpfull,
“Adblock plus”,”Cooliris”,”Google Toolbar4Firefox”, :Foxmarks” that is so stunning,
    “No Script”,natually needed
“Stumbleuplon” that I find the new way to surf the net
without knowing what the next wave will look like SO GREAT! and and last but not least the “Realplayer” download is so convenient.
My Dear beloved Firefox 3 crashes many many times per day for many unknown reasons. I have to RELOAD all my g-mail loading and it freezes during typing an e-mail, Firefox open very often in a minimal left upper side reduced window (position I never leave it or put in.
My partnere and IT engineer aks me why do you instal all these (non-necessary) adds ons? He likes things clean and lean. I say . Why are they offered then? I thought that is what great about OPEN SOURCE and creativity.
    BUT
May I suggeste that every add on should be sent by its creator to FIREFOX, than tested and than released by Firefox with credits to the initial creator.
This should save us, the end users to be the Guinea pigs of add ons /plugins and stop our Firefox experience to become a new Window like misery.

  14. After months of crashes with Firefox 3, I found a single fix that has helped tremendously: I switched to Google Chrome!

  15. My Firefox was upgrade to the latest version 2 days ago, and I have been having nothing but problems. Today, I switched to Opera. You guys need to check Opera. It’s awesome! If you like addons/extensions for Firefox, you will love the widgets for Opera. I got everything I need and some. Opera now runs faster and use less memory than Firefox. I switched from IE to FF about 2 years ago when Opera sucked, now Opera is definitely better than FF in my opinion. I probably wouldn’t go back to FF if they do fix the problems with all the crashing, freezing, hanging, and dead popup links. Check out Opera, you won’t regret it.

  16. I downgraded to Firefox 2 and everything seems to be good. Firefox 3.06 never did this but 3.07 is just taking a piss.

  17. Regarding gmail related crashes.
If look in loaded plugin list (http://about:plugins) and see “Google talk” (npgoogletalk.dll) try remove plugin.
Once I deleted this plugin no more crashes when closing FF with gmail opened.

  18. Firefox 3 sucks. I have had nothing but problems with it.

It hangs and crashes constantly. In periods it won’t show some webpages correctly. And of course, their new url bar, with now way of getting the FF2 functionality back. And yes, I know about oldbar, but that’s only cosmetics. The functionality remains the same.

I am going back to FF2.

  19. Opera Rules…. Firefox is nothing but a hypebox…… I use Opera (Awesome and INNOVATIVE browser) for normal surfing & use FF only when I need those gory and heavy extensions…..

Amen, brother. Unfortunately, Opera does not interface too well with Yahoo mail. Other than that it beats the tar out of Firefox.

  20. So, in terms of every day usability, Opera sucks? But otherwise, its good? LOL. That made my day. I used Opera at an Internet Cafe and it failed miserably when I went to check my web mail. Oh well–back to FF.

  21. Firefox crashes when downloading a flash video file in win7; I haven’t found a fix yet; but if anyone knows one-please let me know.
