5 Useful Widgets for Yosemite’s Notification Center

Notification center is one of the unique features of iOS, which made its debut on Mac OS X in Mountain Lion released in 2012. It carries all the notifications from different apps on your device. In iOS 7, Apple included weather and stock widgets and added support for Twitter and Facebook to send tweets and update status right from the notification center.

The Mac app store has few useful widgets available exclusively for the notification center. Apart from the app notifications, you can install those widgets to improve your productivity on Mac. I’ve handpicked few best widgets from the App Store and listed below.

Note: To add or remove widgets from the Notification center, click “Edit” button at the bottom of the window.

Wunderlist (Free)

Wunderlist is one of the best task managing apps across devices. The app lets you create collaborative to-do lists and reminders and share them with your friends and family members. Wunderlist widget for the notification center will display the tasks you need to complete on that day. You can mark the completed tasks right from the notification center and it will be synced to all your devices automatically. If you are a regular user of Wunderlist, then this is a must have widget in your notification center.

Battery Monitor (Free)

The Battery Monitor widget will be very helpful for MacBook Pro and MacBook Air users. It will show the current battery charge, remaining time, battery temperature, health, etc.. As soon as you install the app, the Battery Monitor icon will be available on the top menu bar. Both will display the same information, but the widget in the notification center will give you a much more detailed information as shown in the screenshot below.

Countdowns (Free)

Countdowns is a simple widget, which lets you add countdowns to any event or a task you need to complete. All you have to do is, type the event name, select the date and include time, if you want the app to calculate the remaining hours. Now, it will start counting the remaining days and time for you in the notification center. It has both free and premium versions. In the free version, you cannot create more than three events and the countdown time is limited to one month.

Parcel – Delivery Tracking (Free)

Parcel is one of the must have widgets for all the Mac users. Add a parcel tracking number of any courier service in the world, the app will automatically detect the service name and give the status of your parcel right away. I checked this app with a couple of my previous orders and one of my current order, it just works fine. You will get notifications for each update on the parcel and it will let you know when it is out for delivery.

iStat Mini ($2.99)

iStat Mini is premium widget, which carries popular features from iStat Menus. It will show your system’s Memory Pressure, CPU and Disk Usage in a pretty understandable way. If you ever see a slow down in the performance of your computer, you can easily monitor with the help of this application. Unlike iStat Menus, it gives a compact layout on your notification center to easily monitor your system activities.
