How To Activate YouTube’s New Transparent Player in Chrome and Firefox

Google is testing a brand new interface for the YouTube Video Player. This new HTML 5 interface has got a transparent look and a sleek design for a better video experience. Since this new video player is not rolled out publicly, we got a simple tweak to quickly enable this video player in your Chrome and Firefox browsers. The steps are as follows.

How To Activate YouTube’s New Player Design in Chrome

Step 1: First, you need to download an extension called “EditThisCookie” from the Chrome web store. Once you install the extension, you will see the app’s icon near to your browser’s URL bar.

Step 2: Now go to and click the EditThisCookie icon on the top and you will see a window as shown in the screenshot above. Find the “VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE” tab in the list. Now you need to edit the value of that cookie to “Q06SngRDTGA” as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 3: That’s it, now click the green tick mark on the bottom and refresh the YouTube page. Open any video and it will be played in the new interface automatically.

Firefox users can do this using the developer console, without installing any extensions. First, go to on your browser and press “Shift+F2” on your keyboard. It will open the developer console on the bottom of your browser. Now type “Cookies list” in that text area and you will see a window as shown in the screenshot below.

Now click the “Edit” button below that “VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE” cookie and you will be asked to manually enter the value in the bottom menu bar. Copy and paste this “Q06SngRDTGA” value and click enter. Now refresh the YouTube page and all the videos will be played in the new interface.

The above screenshot shows the difference between the old and the new interface of the YouTube player. Similar to Smartphone video players, the video control bar and options will be automatically hidden, once the video starts playing. Also, the Video settings window has been re-designed as shown in the screenshot above.
