How To Turn Off Retweets From People You Are Following on Twitter

Twitter is a massive social network where you can follow any number of people to keep in touch with their recent updates. Few weeks before I wrote about a chrome extension to display thumbnails of links shared from image sharing sites. Today I came with a tutorial to stop annoying retweets on Twitter. You might have noticed some of the users in Twitter, tweet interesting things but sometimes they will spam your wall with annoying retweets. Twitter has introduced a new feature to block all those retweets from any user on your friends list. Here’s how to do it.

To enable this feature, first you have log in to your Twitter account and go to your “Following” list. Select the user for whom you need to mute the retweets. Near to the Follow button, you can see an user options icon as shown in the screenshot below. Click that and select “Turn off Retweets” option in the list displayed. That’s it, you will receive only their manual tweets not the retweets they do.

You can also do this from the timeline. When you browse through your timeline, if you find someone in spamming your wall with retweets you can turn off their retweets alone easily. Click the user’s profile link and it will bring the preview of their wall in a pop up. Near to the follow button you will see the same user options icon. Click that and select “Turn off Retweets” to stop you wall getting spammed.

It is an excellent option to enhance your Twitter experience. Another highlight of this option is, it works not only in the Twitter account but also reflects in all other Twitter clients you use. Wherever you use your Twitter account, retweets from muted users will not be shown. Instead of unfollowing an user, this mute option will be very helpful to get only the manual tweets from that particular person.
