Authy Enables Two Factor Authentication Across Devices

In the past five years, there was a tremendous growth among the social networks and the mobile devices. Though it has lots of positive factors, the major thing it affects is the security and the privacy of users. The bugs in the internal system and the malicious apps from hackers can easily steal the user data and violate the user’s privacy. Two factor authentication is one of the best security measures to avoid unauthorized access to your online accounts. Most of the popular web apps like Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, etc., has this feature and lets you enable double protection to your account.

Normally when you enable two-factor authentication in your web accounts, you will receive a unique code in your mobile after entering your password. You can enter that code and log in to your account. So, even if someone knows your password, he cannot log in to your account without the code. Authy, the new app for Tablets and Smartphones, redefines the two-factor authentication system, which lets you receive the code in different devices and even when you’re offline. Here’s how it works.

Authy is a free application available for Android, iOS, Chrome, Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. You can download the respective apps using the link at the end of this post. Once you complete the installation, you will receive a code in an SMS or in a Phone call to activate the application. After the activation process is completed, you will be redirected to the homepage of the app to add your web accounts. By default, the app supports all the popular web apps, so you can easily connect your accounts and enable two-factor authentication in them. Since it supports a wide range of platforms, you can easily transfer the tokens between your PC and mobile devices.

An important feature of the application is, you can take a backup from selective web accounts to cloud storage using the app. This feature will be turned off by default, you can enable that in the application settings to backup your important data. In other two-factor authentication apps, you will receive the unique code via SMS or in a Phone call, but in Authy, you will receive the code only in the app. This feature works perfectly, even when you are not connected to the Internet.  Also, you can lock the app with a master password, so that nobody can access the code without your knowledge.

The video demonstration above will show you how the app works in authenticating your web accounts across devices. Two important highlights of the application is, its wide range of device support and the master password lock for added security. If you feel like someone’s accessing your account or want to add more security to your web accounts, Authy is an excellent app to give a shot. By using this app, nobody can access your account even they know your password. So, try this app on your PC and mobile devices and share your experience with us in the comments.
