How To Quickly Encrypt Files on Windows

A basic security application is essential for people who regularly transfer files through online. Instead of directly sending the files, you can encrypt and assign a password when you transfer files on the Internet. This will be an added security for the files and only authorized people can access it. Previously, I wrote about an application to encrypt your PDF files and a web app to easily encrypt and share your files online. Today I’ve come with a new application called “Quick Crypt” for Windows, which lets you encrypt files on your PC without any complex procedures. Here’s how it works.

Quick Crypt is a free security application for Windows. The app works only on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, previous versions are not supported. Also, it needs Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5 and above on your PC for installation. The application is very small and the size of the app will come around 120 KB. Once you complete the installation, you will see a window as shown in the screenshot above. The interface of the app is very simple and easy to understand. Also, the encryption process is dead simple to carry out.

To start encrypting your files, all you have to do is, just drag and drop the file into the application window. Also, there will be an option to browse and choose the files from your hard disk. After you select the file, you need to type the encryption password two times for confirmation. As a reference, you can leave a password hint to the person on the other side. If you want to use a new strong password for encryption, you can generate one right from the application. Select  Tools -> Generate Secure Password, from the menu. A strong password with 20 characters will be copied to your clipboard automatically.

All your files are encrypted with 256-bit AES Encryption. You can see that in the “Advanced” section of the application. Another important option in the application is, you can set an expiry date for the file you are sending. After that date, even they enter the correct password, the receiver cannot access the file. This will add more security to the confidential files. Also, you can completely delete all the received encrypted files from the Tools -> Erase Files on the menu. If you regularly transfer important files on the Internet, this is a must have application in your PC. Share your views about the app in the comments.
