How To Create Shortcuts For Shutdown, Restart, Hibernate, Sleep and Lock On Windows

Windows allows its users to shutdown, restart, hibernate, sleep and lock from the start menu. Some people would find little difficulty in finding these options in the start menu. It will be pretty good to the users, If the shortcuts for those options are created on the desktop screen. The below commands will let the users to do this. Follow the below instructions to do in windows.

Step 1:

Right-Click on Desktop screen, Go to New –> Shortcut

Step 2:

Type in the below commands in the shortcut location bar correctly.

Shutdown

Shutdown.exe -s -t 00

Shutdown Windows

Restart

Shutdown.exe -r -t 00

Restart  Windows

Hibernate

rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState

Hibernate Windows

Sleep

rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

Sleep Windows

Lock

Rundll32.exe User32.dll,LockWorkStation

Lock Windows

Step 3:

Click on “Next”

Type a name for this shortcut as you wish

Step 5:

Click on “Finish”

Step 6:

To change the shortcut icon, Right-Click on the shortcut. Go to “Properties”

Step 7:

In “Shortcut” tab, Click on “Change Icon”

Step 8:

Choose the icon which you want. Click on “Ok” and “Apply”

You’re done now. Click on the respected icon on the desktop to do the task.
