Use F8 to access Advanced Boot Options in Windows 8

Older version of Windows enabled you to access a number of different boot options during startup, just by tapping the F8 key at the right time. These boot options are still available in Windows 8, but they are accessed in a slightly different way. But if you would like to revert to the old F8 method, here’s how to do so.

If you don’t fancy navigating to the Recovery section of PC Settings just to access Safe Mode, you’ll find that hitting F8 is a great deal easier and quicker. Call up the Start screen, type cmd, right click the Command Prompt entry and select Run as administrator.

At the command prompt, type:

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Hit Enter and then restart your computer.

During the boot process you can now press F8 to access boot option. Should you decide that you would like to return things to the default Windows 8 method, return to the command prompt and enter the following command:

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

That’s all there is to it!
