Manage Facebook And Other Social Networks in Gmail

Social networking websites are becoming an integral part of our daily routine. However, they can be a big distraction especially when you are working. As a writer, I spend most of my time writing and replying to emails. There are times when I cannot stop myself from switching tabs and using Facebook/ Twitter. PowerInbox helps you stay up to date with the latest happenings on your Facebook feed while emailing.

PowerInbox is a very handy extension for Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and internet Explorer that helps users integrate Facebook and other social networking websites in your favourite email client. Currently, the service works with Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and Outlook.com. The supported services include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Let’s take a look at how you can setup PowerInbox in your email.

How To Set up PowerInbox

All you need to do is visit the Chrome Web Store and install PowerInbox in your browser. Once installed, just refresh the email tab and you will see Powerinbox in the top bar in Gmail, Outlook/Hotmail and Yahoo. Click on it and select Sidebar.

This will open a sidebar in Gmail or any other email service you are using. Click on the + icon and it will show you all the supported services. You must authorize PowerInbox on every service you want to use in your Gmail account.

After authorizing, it will display the timeline from your selected networks. In my case, I tried it with Facebook and Twitter. You can compose tweets, read the timeline, retweet, favorite and reply to posts without leaving Gmail. If you want, you can even minimize the sidebar as well.

If you enable display icon from PowerInbox menu, it will display the company’s logo in the emails so that you can distinguish the emails. However, this is restricted to Facebook and other supported services only.

Conclusion

PowerInbox may be a good option if you want to get a sneak peak at your favorite social network. However, we all try our best not to open websites like Facebook and Twitter so that we boost our productivity and can focus on our work. But if you have trouble staying away from it, you can try PowerInbox for your preferred email service. Feel free to share your thoughts if you gave PowerInbox a try.
