If you have rooted Google android phone then here is very useful tool Droid Explorer to manage Google Android phone on Windows. Droid Explorer is compatible with cyanogen’s ROM but it should work on other rooted devices that have busybox installed.

With droid Explorer you can also apply update files, Reboot device in to recovery mode, Take a Screen Shot, browse phone files and simple drop and drag to copy files locally.

Android SDK 1.5 RC1 Released

In second week of April Google Android team had released early preview of latest android SDK (software Development Kit) 1.5 which includes one of most awaited Cupcake update and many new APIs. Android SDK 1.5 final was scheduled for final release by end of this month however it seems Android team is behind schedule.

Today Android team has released first release candidate of Android SDK 1.5. If you are android application developer you may proceed to download Android SDK 1.5 RC1 from official android website.

Please keep in mind that you should not release any Android applications based on latest Android SDK 1.5 RC 1 APIs as these APIs may change in final Android 1.5 SDK release.

G1 phone users still waiting for android cupcake update which will bring life to g1 phone with many new exciting features like onscreen keyboard display, along with video recording and stereo Bluetooth support. but it seems still there is long way for g1 phone users to enjoy android cupcake.

However Google android team has release another SDK (Software Development kit) for android platform, Android SDK 1.5. this is just a early look at SDK where is final release of Android SDK 1.5 will be at the end of this month.

The most interesting part of android 1.5 SDK is, it is based on android cupcake branch. Android 1.5 also introduces APIs for features such as soft keyboards, home screen widgets, live folders, and speech recognition.

Android App Developer can start working on sdk 1.5 and familiar with new API’s however you should not release any application based on these APIs as APIs for Android 1.5 have not been finalized and may changed in final Android 1.5 SDK release.

Our eagerness to download and install various applications on mobile phone may some time end up in creating trouble for us. For example if you have downloaded beta version of any android application on your Google android phone may not have anyway to uninstall.

Uninstall and Delete Android Application from Google Android Phone

1. Go to the Android home screen (The one with the giant clock on it)

2. Press the Menu button

3. Click on “Settings”

4. Scroll till you see “Applications” – Click on it

5. Now click on “Manage applic…”

6. Click on the application that you want to uninstall

7. Click “Uninstall”

If you don’t see android application in that list then you need to manually delete android application by installing SDK on your windows, you will be able to get a shell on the phone (via ‘adb shell’) and manually rm -rf the appropriate directory.

Uninstall and Delete Android Application from Google Android Phone Emulator

Make sure the emulator is running. Then follow below steps:

1. Go to tools directory from command promot

2. Now type adb shell

3. cd /data/app

4. Type ls command (It will display all the .apk installed in your emulator)

5. rm ***.apk (enter application name in place of *** which you want to remove)

6. Exit

How to Manually Update T-Mobile G1 Phone Firmware to RC33

Recently we had reported about latest firmware update RC 33 for T-Mobile G1 Phone. The process of rolling our Firmware to G1 phone users is very slow and there is no control over update process. You need to literally keep looking at your G1 handset for any firmware update prompt. I am sure many users are eagerly waiting for g1 firmware update.

Well don’t worry you can manually update your G1 Phone firmware to RC33. Fortunately some has extracted the RC33 from official update package which can be used to update g1 Phone firmware to RC33. Here is guide on How to Manually Update G1 Phone firmware to RC33.

The process of Updating g1 Phone firmware is exactly similar to what we had reported during RC29 update.

How to Update G1 Phone Firmware RC33

1. Download RC33 update from Google here.

2. Rename it the download file from signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.f06aa9b3.zip to update.zip, and place it at the root i.e the very top directory of your Micro SD card. (If you added the file to your microSD card by connecting the handset to your computer via USB [rather than using a dedicated microSD card reader], make sure to unmount it and disconnect the USB cable now.

3. Turn off your G1 Make sure it completely powered off. Now again turn it on by holding the Home+End keys until you see T-Mobile G1 logo.

4. From the icon screen, open the keyboard and hit Alt+L.

5. Press Alt+S to begin the update. Remember, the update needs to be in the root of the Micro SD card and needs to be named update.zip.

6. Once it finishes, follow the onscreen instructions and press Home+Back to finish.

7. G1 Phone will reboot a few times to flash different parts of the firmware.

If all went well, you should now be running the latest update, RC33. Enjoy your new, shiny RC33 update, complete with Google Latitude!

To make sure all your hard work wasn’t for nothing, hit Menu > Settings > About Phone > scroll to Build Number. You should see RC33 in there somewhere.

Similarly first Google Android G1 Phone is also locked with T-mobile. Incase of iPhone and iPod Touch we have free jailbreaking and unlocking tools but for G1 phone you have to do it manually.

One of most important part in Unlocking G1 Phone is unlock code. You can get SIM Unlock code from T-mobile, in order to request SIM Unlock Code to T-Mobile Customer Care you need have active account for 90 days. Here is guide on How Unlock and Activate your T-Mobile G1 Phone.

How to Unlock and Activate T-Mobile G1 Phone

1. You can officially obtain SIM Unlock code from T-Mobile by Requesting Here. Or you can use Third party Service Unlock-tmobileg1.com which charges $23.99 USD.

2. Insert T-Mobile SIM Card in your G1 Phone

3. Now Press Menu Button and Switch on the G1 Phone using Power button. (Do not release menu Key)

4. Your G1 Phone should start in safe mode

5. Now Press Emergency Dial Button and Type *#06# Key. This will show you IMEI Number.

6. Provide this IMEI Number to T-Mobile Customer Care or to www.unlock-tmobileg1.com to get SIM Unlock code

7. Return to Main Screen Menu and Access APN Settings

8. A list of preset APN will be shown, you need to click on New APN button

9. Now Scroll down on New APN setting Screen and enter following details

MCC (Mobile Country Code), and MNC Mobile Network Code

Here is list of World MCC / MNC codes.

10. Now Switch off your G1 Phone

11. Insert Non T-Mobile SIM card which you have planned to use with G1 Phone.

12. Switch on Your G1 Phone.

13. A Prompt for Enter Unlock Code with popup, enter correct Unlock Codes whih you have received from T-Mobile. (Entering Wrong Unlock code more then Three time may permanently hardware lock your g1 Phone)

14. After Successfully Entering Unlock Code will activate your GPRS / EDGE / 3G Data Service will be active as per APN Setting .

15. Type Google User name / Password in Signing Window and this will Activate the Unlock G1 Device on your SIM Card.

16. Enter remaining Data Setting like MMS / Home Page / Port to Active other Data Service.

Here is Sample Setting for AT&T Data Service for Unlocked G1 Phone

Menu button -> Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Menu Button > New APN

Please keep in mind that Non T-Mobile SIM card which you have planned to use with G1 Phone must have Data Plan or GPRD service activated so that your g1 Phone will be able to connect to Google to activate your G1 Phone.

T-mobile G1 Phone users might be eagerly waiting for Next firmware update with the hope that it will contain one of most awaited cupcake update. We have already reported that cupcake update is still incomplete and might not come out early as it is expected.

Today the news has started floating that new firmware update RC33 for Android G1 Phone is being rolled out to very few T-Mobile users. It is still unknown that what enhancements and features will this firmware update will bring to G1 phone but its for sure that cupcake update is not included with RC33.

Officially it’s confirmed that T-mobile has begun issuing an update RC33 to G1 users. The update, Firmware version 1.1 / RC33, was released to a small number of users today, but will be sent to all G1 users over the next two weeks.

Recently we had posted guide on Getting Multi-touch support on T-Mobile G1 Phone. That guide was based on Luke Hutch changes to Google Android software stack to get multi touch working on G1 Phone which is basically JesusFreke’s replacement of Android firmware image v1.4.

Its android cupcake update which will bring multi-touch and many new features to G1 Phone. Since cupcake is still under development you need to wait some more time to enjoy cupcake update, well don’t worry nullwire has found the way to install current cupcake repository branch on G1 phone emulator.

How to Install Android Cupcake on G1 Phone Emulator

1. Download and Install the Android SDK found here.

2. Now Download latest Android images which includes cupcake update using below link

android_images_sdk1.5.zip (28Mb)

3. Unzip and Unpack files to a temporary location.

4. Backup the folder /tools/lib/images (android_sdk_folder is the Android SDK installation folder)

5. Replace the files ramdisk.img, system.img and userdata.img in /tools/lib/images with the files unpacked from the zip in step 3.

6. Start the emulator and wait.

If your G1 Phone is running latest firmware update RC 30 then you need to downgrade your firmware to RC29 so that you can have root access on your G1 Phone.
