How to Install Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu 9.04

Firefox 3.6 beta 1 is already out & available for download. Though not many new features but you can expect bug fixes and more stability. In past we have covered guide on how to install Firefox 3.5 on Ubuntu now here is simple guide on how to install Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu for those newbie Ubuntu users.

There are two different ways of installing Firefox 3.6 Namoroka on Ubuntu 8.10, 9.04. Both the methods are easy to follow for novice users.

How to Download & Install Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu

Method 1: Installing via repository

1. Go to System -> Administrator -> Software Sources

2. Now Click on Third Party Software Tab and add below repository

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ubuntu intrepid main

3. Now go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal and type below command

Sudo apt-get install firefox-3.6

Once you have completed installation to start Firefox 3.6 go to Applications > Internet > Minefield 3.6 Web Browser.

Method 2: Installing using wget

Below one line command can install Firefox 3.6 on your Ubuntu

wget – o – http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6b1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.6b1.tar.bz2 | tar xj -C ~

In past we have covered several Rapidshare tools for windows today we are here with excellent Rapidshare script for Linux and Windows. Rapidshare Automatic Downloader is small script for Linux as well as for Windows to download files from Rapidshare via command line automatically.

The script will automatically start the downloads in the list, and even if the DOWNLOAD LIMIT has been exceeded, it will wait and retry every 5 minutes until it can download the other files!!

How to Install on Linux

For linux users, this is just a simple bash script. Just do the following to set it up:

unzip rsdown_linux.zip

chmod +x ./rsdown_linux/rsdown.sh

How to Install on Windows

Extract the package, and navigate to the rsdown_win folder. then:

1. right-click on rsdown.sh

2. choose open with -> Browse to the rsdown_win\bin\ folder

3. choose sh.exe, and press ok

4. Next go to Control panel->System->Advanced->Environment Variables
and append the rsdown_win\bin location folder (put in the full path of the folder) to the PATH variable.

How to Install Flash Player 10 on Linux 64-bit

1. Download the plugin to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.

2. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.

3. Quit your browser.

4. Remove all existing Adobe Flash Player installations from the system.

5. Unpackage the file. A directory with contains libflashplayer.so will be created.

6. Copy libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins. Create the ‘plugins’ folder if it does not exist yet.

7. Launch your browser. To verify installation in Firefox choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

1. Open your Terminal and run following command

echo ‘deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main’ >> /etc/apt/sources.list

echo ‘deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main’ >> /etc/apt/sources.list

2. Add the Launchpad PPA GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 247510BE

3. Now run below command on your terminal

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5

Method 2: Using Wget

Either you can download Firefox 3.5 via any other browser if you have on your Ubuntu or else run following command on terminal to download Fierfox 3.5

1. wget -O – ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.5/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.5.tar.bz2 | tar xj -C ~

2. Double-click the firefox file inside the firefox folder in your home directory, or run this command:

~/firefox/firefox

That’s it, A lest version Firefox 3.5 is installed and ready for use on your Linux Machin.
