Once again iPhone Dev team has proved it, that they are one step ahead of Apple. Many users were disappointed with no jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.1.3 Baseband 0.5.12.07 but knowing that Apple was on its way to release iPhone 4.0 OS it’s best decision for iPhone Dev Team to save exploit for future jailbreak.
Now that iPhone OS 4.0 Dev preview is released iPhone dev team has come up with first public iPhone 3G OS 4.0 Beta 1 jailbreak tool i.e Redsn0w 0.9.5. Below is the step by step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.0 with Redsn0w 0.9.5 only on Mac OS X.
How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 4.0 with Redsn0w 0.9.5
1. If you are iPhone developer then you can head over to Apple site and download iPhone OS 4.0 firmware or here is leaked version of iPhone OS 4.0 firmware (iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw) for iPhone 3G.
2. Download and install iPhone OS 4.0 on your iPhone 3G
3. Download Redsn0w 0.9.5 for Mac OS X
4. Launch the Redsn0w 0.9.5
5. Select your stock iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw file (you’ve already used this to update your iPhone3G to 4.0beta1)
6. Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.
7. When your iPhone3G comes back up, you’ll notice Cydia has a blank white icon. You’ll also notice Cydia has no sources. Go to the Sources panel and add this repo: http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 (be sure you have a carrier or wifi signal first!).
When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now, and the standard sources should be ready to use.
