The announcement of Apple’s iPhone Operating System 4.0 came with a lot of ups and a few downs. We get multitasking, the new iAd, and a new folders feature just to name a few. But the downside is iPhone OS 4.0 will not be released for the 1st generation iPhone 2G and iPod Touch. We also learned that not all features will be enabled on on all models, for example only the iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touch 3G will get the multitasking feature. The iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G are left out in the cold on this one. Well it didn’t take long after a the Dev Team released a jailbreak video of iPhone OS 4.0, that another iPhone Dev managed to find a way to enable multitasking on the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G.
A tweet posted by @cdevwill, says he found the value inside the plist file that can simply be edited to enable the multitasking feature that was disabled by Apple due to lack of sufficient amount of RAM in the two devices.
wow looks like multitasking can be enabled on the 3G if you just set multitasking=TRUE on the capabilities plist in SB (N82AP.plist)
The the N82AP.plist file, is one of the two main files in System Directory, inside there is a variable which can be changed from =FALSE to =TRUE. Simple enough, now either device has the new multitasking feature enabled. There is still the question if you will need you device jailbroken or not to be able to edit the value. But when that time comes and we will let you know. Remember iPhone OS 4.0 will be released in the summer, so there is some time to learn all the ins and outs of the operating system. You can check out the iPhone OS 4.0 beta if you can’t wait till then.
