You can download official PwnageTool 3.1 and jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1, iPhone 2G 3.1 & iPod Touch 1G 3.1 fimrware. Unfortunately PwnageTool 3.1 is not available for windows it’s only for Mac OS X. however if you can get Custom iPhone 3G ipsw then you can jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1 on Windows.
We have written long Guide on how to jailbreak iPhone 3g 3.1 and now here is guide on how to unlock iPhone 3G 3.1 OS with ultrasn0w. please keep in mind before attempting to unlock iPhone 3G 3.1 you must jailbreak it first with pwnagetool 3.1.
How to Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1 OS with Ultrasn0w
1. You must install Cydia when you jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1
2. Launch Cydia/ Icy
3. Select Manage Tab at the bottom of screen and go to Sources
4. Press edit button and Add following Repo URL
5. Once the source has been added press the large Return to Cydia button.
6. Go to repo666.ultrasn0w.com from the list of user entered sources and select Ultrasn0w from list
7. Click on Install Button and confirm the installation and wait for installation to complete
8. Now press the Home button then power off and power on the iPhone. You do this by holding down the power button for 3 seconds then moving the power slider that appears to the right. Press the power button again to turn on the phone.
9. That’s it, Now insert SIM card of your choice

I failed to unlock my iPhone 3G with this guide. It always shows No SIM. I read on Dev Team Blog that using QuickPwn can’t unlock iPhone 3G at least for now. Is it true? Please help me please.

I tried also but I wasn’t able to get my 3G on 3.1 firmware unlocked. i did add the source ultrasn0w but it didn’t work.

FW 3.1 isnt unlockable at the moment.
The guide is misleading for a lot of people cause they dont read the manual correctly.
To update/jailbreak, you should avoid updating directly with iTunes to 3.1, this causes an upgrade of the Baseband which ultrasn0w or any other tool cant unlock.
The manual states to use pwnagetool and update with a custom firmware with is 3.1 BUT with Baseband of 3.0(1)
All of you who have updated directly to Baseband 5.11.07(check your info on iPhone) have to wait till further notice of an unlock by Dev-team or anybodyelse who is clever enough:)

I tried to unlock my 3G 3.01 .. followed the instruction but it doesn’t accept firmware bundle… even restored it and lost the data :) any help???
i have tried all the things jailbreak + ulrasn0w but “no service ” some time ……

Guys, some of you might be saved. I made the same mistake. After many hours of googling, I found that iphones that have bootloader version 05.08 can downgrade the baseband to 04.26, which makes ultrasn0w work.

I downgraded to 3.0.1 before doing it, but I suspect is the same in 3.1. The thing is, the bootloader needs to be 05.08 (first 3G iphones had it).
