Few days back we had reported about iPhone OS 3.1 jailbreak and unlock status. Chronic Dev team is getting ready with greenpois0n and iPhone Dev team working on Pwnagetool 3.1. Finally iPhone Dev team has release first iPhone os 3.1 jailbreak and unlocked tool Pwnagetool 3.1.

PwnageTool 3.1 is mac tool (sorry windows users) and will for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 1G 3.1. Redsn0w which can jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will be release soon in new future.

Important Points:-

1. You are using a 3G iPhone with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should only upgrade to 3.1 with a PwnageTool created .ipsw. – Stay away from Apple’s direct updates as described here and here please get up to speed on the whole subject by reading the information contained in these posts.

2. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.1 unlock works with this PwnageTool release. iPhone 3G users upgrading to 3.1 will need to continue using ultrasn0w with a PwnageTool created 3.1 .ipsw

3. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

4. This version of PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS

This is the most helpful post I’ve ever read in my entire life. After 3 whole days of excruciating agony after a 3.0 update of my friend’s iphone, (which I thought would’ve been straightforward) the phone relocked and nothing worked. I kept getting these freaky errors in itunes while trying to downgrade the phone’s firmware.
Finally I found this post and after following it to a T! it worked like a dream.

Hi there!
I have messed up with mi iPhone 3G, im a windows user and i cant use the pwned program, i made the mistake and updated my iphone from iTunes to 3.1 and it is completely locked! just for emergency calls! what can i do? please help me my mail is edgarmcarrillo@gmail.com thank you

thanx alot for the help… it sure works… i made the ipsw file on my mac and then used my windows laptop to upgrade… it works fine… i just have one question now… 3.1.2 is not available… will this method work for it too???? has any one tried?????
