On 9th September 2009 Apple has officially released iPhone OS 3.1 at Rock and Roll event along with iTunes 9 & new iPod touch 3G (3rd Generation). iPhone 3G & 3GS owners can download and update firmware 3.1 for free whereas iPod Touch users need to pay around 5$ to update 3.1 OS. We have posted guide here how to update iPod touch to 3.1 for free.
Till now there are very few updates on iPhone 3G/3GS jailbreak & unlock. Latest update from iPhone Dev team on blog says there are working on pwnagetool for 3.1 and will be soon out. Another update is from chronic dev team is for iPod Touch 3G.
As per tweets from Chronic Dev Team, they have confirmed that iPod Touch 3G 3.1 is vulnerable and they are successful at running Pois0n exploit. Below is demo video posted on Qik by Chronic Dev Team.
Chronic Dev Team has registered a domain name greenpois0n.com and it seems this is the name of latest jailbreak and unlock tool for iPod Touch 3G (ipt3). No other details are available about GreenPois0n release and its compatibility.

They probably won’t release till the next gen touch comes out in I think June.
They don’t want to give away the break to apple for them to fix.
They don’t want to find have to find another loop to jailbreak.

Let me know when you can jailbreak the iPod touch 3g… I was going to use blackra1n but then I would have to rebot and run the software everytime that it dies on I turn it off… So please let me know when.

Jailbreaking the 3G touch isn’t as easy as you guys seem to think. The firmware modifications, so I believe, are fairly easy. The problem is hacking into the hardware so that the bootloader and other NON-FIRMWARE files can be changed. Apple has fixed the holes used to jailbreak on all previous hardware. In addition, it is quite possible for the Dev Team’s attempts to jailbreak the hardware to ‘brick’ devices they use to test.
Don’t be selfish and request an individual to email you when the jailbreak is available. It’s not that hard to check the Dev Team Blog at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/; as soon as it’s available and deemed stable, it will be on there. If you don’t even understand everything I just said, don’t touch the thing until it is deemed stable and on the blog linked above. Unstable releases can render your device unusable and unrestorable.

i ve tried alot of different methods of jailbreaking my ipod touch 3g 3.1.1 firmware but they just don’t work if greenpois0n works it will be such a relief, but my only question is if it will be easy to jailbreak and will it come with cydia or installous??? hopefully it will be released soon but id rather they work out all the qurks before they release it.
Once I jailbreak my 3g iPod touch once greenpois0n comes out will I be able to keep everything from my tethered blackra1n jailbreak?

This will work for ipod touch 1,2 and iphone. The reason why this does not work for the new 3g is because, Apple has made their system stronger so that that the 3g will not be able to jailbreak. For the itouchs 3g you’ll need to wait until some geunious finds a way to jailbreak it in a safe way.
