So, in terms of every day usability, Opera sucks? But otherwise, its good? LOL. That made my day. I used Opera at an Internet Cafe and it failed miserably when I went to check my web mail. Oh well--back to FF.

Opera Rules…. Firefox is nothing but a hypebox…… I use Opera (Awesome and INNOVATIVE browser) for normal surfing & use FF only when I need those gory and heavy extensions…..

Amen, brother. Unfortunately, Opera does not interface too well with Yahoo mail. Other than that it beats the tar out of Firefox.

Firefox 3 sucks. I have had nothing but problems with it.

It hangs and crashes constantly. In periods it won't show some webpages correctly. And of course, their new url bar, with now way of getting the FF2 functionality back. And yes, I know about oldbar, but that's only cosmetics. The functionality remains the same.

I am going back to FF2.

Regarding gmail related crashes.
If look in loaded plugin list (http://about:plugins) and see "Google talk" (npgoogletalk.dll) try remove plugin.
Once I deleted this plugin no more crashes when closing FF with gmail opened.

My Firefox was upgrade to the latest version 2 days ago, and I have been having nothing but problems. Today, I switched to Opera. You guys need to check Opera. It's awesome! If you like addons/extensions for Firefox, you will love the widgets for Opera. I got everything I need and some. Opera now runs faster and use less memory than Firefox. I switched from IE to FF about 2 years ago when Opera sucked, now Opera is definitely better than FF in my opinion. I probably wouldn't go back to FF if they do fix the problems with all the crashing, freezing, hanging, and dead popup links. Check out Opera, you won't regret it.

After months of crashes with Firefox 3, I found a single fix that has helped tremendously: I switched to Google Chrome!

I have upgraded eagerly to Firefox 3 on my Lap Xp and my PC Vista home and it has been a night mare since! Never had ANY problems with Firefox 2 on the same machines and same addons/plugins.
I had installed COLOURFULL TABS which I adore,
"All in One Sidebar" that I find so helpfull,
"Adblock plus","Cooliris","Google Toolbar4Firefox", :Foxmarks" that is so stunning,
"No Script",natually needed
"Stumbleuplon" that I find the new way to surf the net
without knowing what the next wave will look like SO GREAT! and and last but not least the "Realplayer" download is so convenient.
My Dear beloved Firefox 3 crashes many many times per day for many unknown reasons. I have to RELOAD all my g-mail loading and it freezes during typing an e-mail, Firefox open very often in a minimal left upper side reduced window (position I never leave it or put in.
My partnere and IT engineer aks me why do you instal all these (non-necessary) adds ons? He likes things clean and lean. I say . Why are they offered then? I thought that is what great about OPEN SOURCE and creativity.
BUT
May I suggeste that every add on should be sent by its creator to FIREFOX, than tested and than released by Firefox with credits to the initial creator.
This should save us, the end users to be the Guinea pigs of add ons /plugins and stop our Firefox experience to become a new Window like misery.

I'm having an issue with Firefox Portable. It won't start. When I double-click it, a window pops up right away saying "Firefox stopped working...." This happened with FF2, I removed it from my flash drive and installed FF3 which worked for a few days, but no I'm having the same thing again. Starting FF in safe mode doesn't change this behavior. Any ideas?

Here's the fix: I had the same problem as many of you. Made no changes to extensions or anything, and after time, Firefox started hanging.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, etc and nothing worked.

I went through the hassle of setting up an entirely new profile, and while I was importing over my history, I found the problem!

Delete your old history (I suggest everything over 6 days old unless you need it), then set the number of days of history to save (in options) to fewer days (I wouldn't go with more than 20).

That should fix the "mysterious" hanging problem without having to go through the trouble of setting up a whole new profile like I did.
