Windows Vista Home, Basic and Starter editions are available at low prices compared to Windows Vista Ultimate edition however Vista Home, Basic & Starter editions have many restrictions like support for only one language, No Aero support, no remote desktop etc.

Here is useful tool Vistalizator which can override limitation of One Multilingual User Interface Packs (MUI) to let you install & change display language in Vista editions other than (officially supported) Ultimate, like Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Business without need of Vista Ultimate CD or DVD.

Features of Vistalizator

1. Change Vista display language in less than 5 minutes! (Express installation mode)

2. Uses official Microsoft Vista language packs

3. You can install all 36 MUI languages and switch between them easily

4. You can install 41 LIP languages on top of specific MUI languages

5. Works in 32-bit and 64-bit Vista

6. Compatible with Vista Service Pack 1 and Vista Service Pack 2

7. Languages can be installed either in Internal or in Express mode

I have almost the same problem. I have sent an e-mail to Vistalizator to get some help. Here is my mail:

Hi.

I’m trying to add a Norwegian MUI-pack in Vista Home Basic using Vistalizator 2.10.
I have downloaded MUI for SP2 32-bit and get an Error message when adding it.
“This Languagepack is compatible with Vista RTM or Vista with SP2. You have Vista SP2″.
I am 100% sure that i have downloaded the right pack according to my system specs.
I have also tried to download the MUI-pack from Microsoft but still the same message.
I have tried with the UAC enabled and disabled.
What seems to be the problem in this case?

If I get a solution for this, I will post it here.

Here is the mail I recieved from Vistalizator support.

Please use the latest beta version that supports Vista SP2: http://froggie.sk/download/Vistalizator_beta.exe .
Sorry for any troubles… I know it is not obvious from the website, I need to update it.

So, the answer is, in order to use this with Vista SP2, you need to use the beta-version of the software.
