We have already reported about iPhone Dev team success in jailbreaking & unlocking iPhone 3GS. However iPhone Dev will not release jailbreak & unlock for iPhone 3GS soon considering very less number of users have iPhone 3GS.

Apple has already release iPhone OS 3.1 beta to developers and chances are that they may fix the bug used in jailbreaking iPhone 3GS. So you must stay away from firmware 3.1. Today iPhone Dev team has published video showing ultrasn0w in action to unlock iPhone 3GS 3.0.

Ultrasn0w uses the at+xlog crash as an injection vector unlocking payload and it does so on the 3GS in exactly the same way as on the 3G!  But this injection vector will be lost if you update to 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which updates the baseband.

So stay away from official 3.1 IPSWs until iPhone Devteam releases the tools that let you update the firmware without updating the baseband.
