Apple want you to jailbreak it. Why do you think they left the exploit in there? If it wasn’t for the original iPhone being jailbroken apple wouldn’t have the app shop it has today.
They don’t care about selling software they just care about selling hardware. They make their money whether the iPhone is jailbroken or not, hell, they will probably sell more if it can be jailbroken, hence the exploits.
Use your noggin, it’s so obvious it hurts.

yeah sure… and apples prediction of 1bil $ profit from appstore until 2010 is bogus then? dont forget that apple takes 20% from all purchases made from app store

You do realise that Apple makes a loss on iphone hardware and makes profit because of the appstore. This is true with most companies, e.g.: Sony sells the PS3 at a loss but makes enough money in games.

Also only a minimal amount of iphone buyers jailbreak.

Jailbreaking like homebrew on the psp is against company policy as well as probably the law (as all apps need authorsiation).

    So:

“Apple want you to jailbreak it.”

    uhhh no

Guys look if we dont have the appstore why we should jailbreak it and if it is legal for apple to jailbreak it nobody would make apps anymore…

I second BARAN, DUKE is full of you know what. Apple is an empire and they dont want to loose even the smallest bit of control. Why do you think they reject so many apps that have nothing wrong except that they will hurt either AT&T(partner) or Apple’s own product/services sales?

Apple doesn’t make a loss on their hardware. They would if ATT didn’t lock customers into contracts that add $10 to an unlimited data plan that gets you NOTHING that a non-iPhone data plan won’t get you.

ATT gives a portion of the proceeds to Apple in order to offset the low prices paid for the phones. If this weren’t the case, how could they give away so many free phones of other brands for so many years?

Apple didn’t count on making money from iPhone apps. That they do make one was a pleasant surprise.

They don’t care if you jailbreak it, because no matter how many jaibroken ones there are in the world, someone had to sign a 2 year contract with ATT to get each one, or they had to pay full price.
