*** IMPORTANT NOTE *** these downloads are for windows 64 bit systems and information to this should be posted in this blog. Additionally, if you had a jailbroken iphone, THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE YOUR JAILBREAK. The only way to re-install the jailbreak at this time is to re-install OS 3.0 BETA 5 on top of the OS 3.0 Gold Master…not a good idea.

doesn’t work! apparently you have to call AT&T for them to do something else and tell them you’re a developper. I’ve had no luck yet with that approach. As is, all these steps worked for me, but i get a red ! when trying to send MMS. such a pain!

Okay people, this is how it is. You need iTunes 8.2 Final release (8.20.13) to install the latest 3.0 software (aka final version)

I called apple and they told me that the 3.0 GM that was released for developers is EXACTLY the same as the one that was released to the public yesterday (meaning u don’t need a developer account to use GM)

Anyway, once you get the final 3.0 (7A341) then you HAVE to go back to iTunes 8.20.10 because that was the last version of itunes that allowed you to update the carrier file (ATT_US.ipcc). After that version they stopped letting you do that.

ALL THIS DOES in this tutorial is make the iPhone ABLE to have MMS and tethering. You still have to call ATT and have them enable MMS on your iPhone for developer reasons and unless you get some smart agent they usually do it (even though they aren’t supposed to.. u should have done this before the 3.0 final was released)

It does work, I’ve been doing it now for a full month and 3.0 7A341 doesn’t make it stop working. Enjoy and if the rapidshare link to itunes that is posted above doesn’t work just google the “itunes released with 3.0 beta 4″ (That’s supposedly 8.20.10… idk if it is but it works)

Good Luck~!

Well i happened to get the MMS working on AT&T but i have not tried the tethering yet. I put my sim in a old AT&T phone and made some calls and sent a couple of sms so it could register. Then i put my sim back in my iPhone and i was able to send and receive MMS for a couple minutes or so and then it wouldnt work. So the MMS would only work for a lil after i take out of my old phone. im trying to find a way to keep it working.

I have both tethering and MMS working perfectly. Both work at surprising speeds. I have iPhone 3G I purchased last summer. I installed GM Final using iTunes 8.2b7 (10). I used ipcc file found in this thread. I also removed the SIM card from my iPhone and placed in an ATT non-iPhone that was MMS capable. I logged into my iPhone wireless account at ATT site and changed my messaging plan from the iPhone unlimited to the general unlimited. I then registered the iPhone phone number at My Media.Net (it sends code to the phone tha I used to finalize the registration). I sent a few messages and made some phone calls before switching the SIM cards back. I had to do the switch routine twice before it worked. It has been working for about 30 minutes with no problem.

Oh Yes I forgot to mention that I used the following settings:

APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password CINGULAR1 (it’s case sensitive)
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 066.209.011.032
MMS Max: (blank)
MMS UA: (blank)

I used the ipcc file above and still cannot get MMS working. Can anybody HELP. After getting the ipcc install and seeing that tethering worked, I called AT&T and got “messaging unlimited” added which is the plan you need for MMS (before I just had text unlimited). Does anyone know what the problem might be????

My settings are:

APN wap.cingular
user/pass is blank
MMSC mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy 066.209.011.032

Could the ipcc file not work entirely correctly because I have the official 3.0 release, no the GM (I assumed they would because it is the same build – 7a341)

Ok, HERE is how to get MMS on AT&T – after calling for about 2 hours and trying to get them to remove the hold on MMS and being told by three people that there was no code on the account here’s what I did:
I called and said I’m an iPhone developer (I am) and I needed MMS to check an app.
Had a brainwave half way through the woman telling me that my iPhone doesnt support MMS – CHANGE THE MESSAGING FEATURE ON THE ACCOUNT FROM IPHONE MESSAGING TO REGULAR MESSAGING.

And now it seems to work!

Ok I got it….
1. Take your sim card out of your phone.
2. Put it into an old non iPhone ATT phone
3. Make some calls on it.
4. Go to attwireless.com and log into your account. make sure that the phone listed as ‘my device’ is not the iphone, it should be the phone that you just made the calls from.
5. Change the messaging plan from the iphone messaging plan to the regular unlimited messaging plan. PS they are the same price $20.00.
6. After you have done that, make sure you have updated the ipcc. You can sync your phone to itunes without a sim card. So do this while your sim card is inthe old phone.
7. Turn off your iPhone.
8 Put the sim card in
9. Turn on the iPhone.
It works and it is probably the greatest thing upgrade ever. The pictures are in the little bubble and it looks fantastic. Also works with sending and receiving video.

*****If you are having problems because your itunes only can see .ipsw files, than you need to downgrade to the 8.2 beta version of itunes. Then it will allow you to select .ipsw and .ipcc files.

Have you actually tried that – I did and it didn’t work it still gave me iPhone messaging as the only options.

Update on AT&T: apparently they’ve issued a memo telling everyone not to enable mms even if you are a developer. How the he’ll can AT&T operate like this? How do they expect us developers to test applications ready for when they finally throw the switch on mms?

Anyway – follow the above how-to, but change the phone yourself to a nokia or something you can buy with a sim card – call AT&T and tell them you are using an old phone to be able to send mms but your iPhone for your email and web browsing. Can they check to see if there are any blocks on the account to stop you sending mms. Make sure they change to regular messaging.

Written By Jonesy
on June 21st, 2009

(1)After step 9 got setting/messages and enable mms.
(2)Turn off iphone and remove sim and leave iphone off
(3)get second phone that support mms and insert the sim card into that phone and turn it on
(4)go to att change your devise to that phone then log out
(5)send mms from that phone to someone then remove the sim card and insert it into the iphone. Good luck
that work for me

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE LISTEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!I SOLVED THE RED EXCLAMATION POINT PROBLEM WHEN SENDING!!!

I found out why some of you can get it and some of you cant! After you do all the steps above (and yes, that is the wrong link to version 8.20.10, find it somewhere) and you still get the red exclamation point.

1. You need to put your SIM card into another AT&T phone that is NOT an iPhone. Then send some MMS’s and make some calls with that phone.

2. Next log in to your account on http://www.wireless.att.com. Make sure that the phone pictured on your number is the phone you are using, NOT the iPhone. (If you have a family messaging plan then you should be able to put your SIM card back in your iPhone and it will work. If not, continue.)

3. (if necessary) If you are on a single person plan, click on the “features” tab up top. Change your messaging plan to the unlimited SMS and MMS package. Test it out, make sure it works. Then put the SIM card back into your iPhone and it should work.

4. MMS is enabled on your account for iPhone!

(NOTE: I dont know if you bring in your iPhone to AT&T for any reason, they might get mad because you have a different SMS and MMS service for a different phone that ISNT your iPhone. I dont know what they would do, so just be careful!)

MMS is still working here and with the person I stepped through the setup. I know it’s still in trial and error stage so the only thing I can suggest to the people who’s MMS has stopped working is to try and send one from a different phone. If it fails it’s AT&T or your plan if it goes through it’s your iPhone.

What is the disadvantage of this? Can this mess up your phone / warranty or get charged extra by ATT for tethering?

Anyone had problems?

Written By FuJin
on June 28th, 2009

Most of these steps listed are unnecessary. You simply need to need to load the .ipcc (which if you do it through the command prompt way its easiest) then call and tell At&T that you aren’t using your Iphone anymore and would like to have your messaging plan changed to the standard SmS MMS package. Take you Sim card out of your iphone, place it into another phone….send a few pics…place it back in your iphone…bingo…that easy

Written By Alan
on July 7th, 2009

Here’s the deal, all you all are doing is wasting your time trying to get the MMS enabled on your 3G iPhone using the 3.0 OS. It will not work! It doesn’t matter if you removed your sim card from your iPhone and put it in another type of AT&T phone then do all this downloading of stuff and then return the sim card to the iPhone…. It will not work REGARDLESS!!! These people who have posted info on how to enable the MMS feature are lying to you and they have no idea of what they’re talking about. My IT co-workers have done everything to get the MMS feature working but there is no way to do so. Also, when you downloaded the latest itunes and upgraded the OS to 3.0 you’ve basically locked your phone and itunes. There is NO WAY to “rollback” your itunes version nor is there a way to “rollback” your OS on the phone. You’re stuck! You’re at the mercy of AT&T now. And no matter how many times you call AT&T and tell them you’re a developer they will NOT flip some magical switch so you can get MMS on your iPhone. In short, quit trying to enable the MMS because it will not work until AT&T releases its carrier update.

I got it. 100% We will see if it sticks. I have vvm, picture/video msg, and tether. Also I am doing this on a 3gs, I will be attempting to do it to friends 2g and 3g.

This is what I did.
First, thru cydia install “apn editing”
Then on your iphone browser go to “help.benm.at/help.php”
Scroll down and right under the “Tethering and Internet settings” header click the download next to mobile config, scroll to bottom and choose “u.s.a” then in that menu choose att. You just enabled tethering. Works great.

download the att_usa file at
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J84S5YPV

Install via the shift+click check for update, change file type in bottom right to look for the ipcc in the file you saved the download. No reboot necessary yet. You should now have the “Cellular Network” option and tethering option in Settings>General>Networks. DO NOT CHANGE THE SETTINGS!

Reboot

When it starts back up your msg should have a camera icon, and also allow email address in the “to” feild.

Call yourself from another phone and leave a message, VVM should be good. If not google the vvm settings for your area and replace the settings in the vvm field in cellular data.

Here’s the kicker, you do have to have another phone on att available to put your sim in. Change the phone in your profile on ATT website to match the phone you are using, even if it’s your buddies. Tool around on internet send some mms. This will make the phone stick on your att profile…well at least for now. I am going on an hour so far, longer then my last attempt via other ways. Put the sim back in the iphone. You should be good to go. It does send kind of slow…don’t freak out. The send bar goes all the way to the end and stops short. That pissed me off at first because it happened to me and got that red icon of msg death on other programming attempts. But it goes through.

Try and let me know if it worked. Also, make sure you take out all other APN profiles you have attempted to use and only run with the one from help.benm and the att_us from mega upload.

I will post back occasionally with status

To the reviewer Alan,

that is NOT true! I had an iphone 3g, and i am a developer, and had os 3.0 beta 5 and my phone broke, i converted back to 2.2.1 so they would take the phone back, and i just uninstalled itunes 8.2 beta since all it is, is an application, you can remove applications on your computer. And I went and checked at an att store, and the guy told me that strangly, since i had in iphone, that my mms was on and working on my plan. And I also did get mms working for about an hour, but it did work. So it is not wasting time, but it is not fully functional for all of us 100% yet.

Alan, The reason is because they blocked out the option to upgrade carrier settings on iTunes 8.2. The only way to do it was for the people that have the beta. Im not gonna find it, but look for iTunes 8.2 beta, its build 8.2.0.10, NOT 8.2.0.13 as that is the official release of iTunes 8.2

You can skip DLing the past iTunes and still do the IPCC file from your current iTunes. As stated by Malmond24 but there is a catch for some of you users. It does work but…
“C:\Program Files (x86)\….” might be the slight change you will have to make while using this trick in your command prompt.

“C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Run the command from a shell. (CMD from the start)
Boot your iTunes (Any version)
Shift Left Click on UPGRADE
select ipcc
find file
install
Enjoy!

I got MMS working 100% and DID NOT have to do all that delete itunes, reinstall itunes, change sim, call att cust service, ipcc updates whew who has time for all that!Heres what I did (btw I have JB iphone 3g 3.0 on att dont know if it works on 3gs)Ok here we go first dl supreme prefs 3.0 from cydia, then enable mms (to do this search for the mms toggle and turn it on)do a hard restart (hold down power button on top and turn off iphone)now when you turn it back on you should see a little camera icon in your messages app to be used for mms ok if you see it good now go to settings/general/network/cellular data network scroll down to mms settings and type this in exactly as these APN settings are case sensitive!
APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
After that restart your phone again and……………..
Thats it you can now send and recieve mms on iphone 3g 3.0 hopefully this helps some people who are tired of att beating around the bush with MMS if this helps please comment and let me know (ITS ALL ABOUT THE MMS APN SETTINGS)!

I have tried all methods. Tethering works either with help.benm.at or the ITunes 8.20.10 / AT&T ipcc 5.0 Carrier update methods described above. I would be careful about what you tether to. I corrupted the ethernet settings on my fathers computer when attempting to tether and had to do an OEM restore. As for MMS, I’ve tried it all. It worked initially for a day then failed. Since then I can get it working for about 5 minutes with the SIM swap method, but then it fails. I have unlimited general messaging enabled with AT&T. Just tell them you sometimes switch phones for battery life reasons or additional features on your other phone and don’t accept no for an answer. The only thing I do not have that other successes have reported is the family plan which may prevent reversion once MMS is successfully setup. If anyone can speak to this phenomenon and help me out, I would appreciated it. Thanks and good luck.

Update: Do not download the beta 2 of iPhone OS 3.1. It disables tethering and MMS. Wait for OS 3.1 to be released. That is the supposed date that these features will be released.

E-mail me if ya want info, I got it to work.. promise…

Out of curiousity I called ATT and the techs told me that the end of THIS month that they will be done with their “updates” and MMS will be ofically supported..

AND THIS GUY IS A DUMBASS AND DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT..

Written By Alanon July 7th, 2009Here’s the deal, all you all are doing is wasting your time trying to get the MMS enabled on your 3G iPhone using the 3.0 OS. In short, quit trying to enable the MMS because it will not work until AT&T releases its carrier update.

iTunes wouldn’t let me use a .ipcc file at first so I ran:

“C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

on the cmd.
Then I closed and re-opened iTunes, plugged in my iPhone, clicked on my iPhone icon on the side panel, then held the control key while clicking the update button. Then I was able to use the .ipcc file. After that I just synced my phone and I now have tethering.

How the hell do I stop getting messages about this. I commented a long time ago about how to get it working and now the messages just keep popping up. What’s even more odd is I don’t see my post up there. Closest to my post I see is what a Sean had said. I was just a bit more detailed about it when I wrote up my comment.

I updated the carrier settings, and it looks like I can send MMS…but I get 3/4 of the way through sending the message and it quits sending.
