There is a good eGuide that is worth downloading that has step by step instructions and included special software for removing iTunes properly as long as you follow the step by step screenshots. It is referenced at the end of the article below this post. The article has quire a few positive comments.

um, yeah i ran this command in terminal on my imac and it messed up the font in safari and a bunch of stuff so i rebooted but now mac wont boot. help?

Apple just “pushed” iTunes 8.2 onto my iMac. If I uninstall it and install an earlier version from one of the sites you recommend, what’s to prevent another “push” of iTunes 8.2 or later version in the future? I have a Pre and just got locked out of iTunes after they pushed the 8.2 update. Thanks.

Renaming my iTunes Library.itl file to iTunes Library.itl.old and then replacing it with the last backup from my Previous iTunes Libraries folder fixed the issue; would have been really helpful to have included this info in your tutorial…

Yeah, fantastic, except after I uninstalled iTunes 8.2 from Add/Remove Programs and reinstalled 8.1, I now get “The “file iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes”.

there it goes again:
“Open your Applications folder, and drag iTunes to the trash. Restart your Mac and empty the trash to ensure iTunesHelper is not running and not installed. Go to your Music directory and open up the iTunes folder. Move iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml to your desktop. Install the version of iTunes you’ve been trying to install. Open it up, and go to File > Import
Choose the iTunes Music Library.xml that’s on the desktop
This should rebuild your library/playlists.
You can now delete those library files on the desktop
You should be good to go.”

I could not find Terminal.app
I barely know if that’s an application I should download.
I would appreciate if anyone could let me know.
I ended up following rougher instructions, wich seem to have worked fine so far.
I only had to import the mobile apps from the iTunes Import
Choose the iTunes Music Library.xml that’s on the desktop
This should rebuild your library/playlists

You can now delete those library files on the desktop
You should be good to go”

No old itunes for mac files at the link shown (oldapps.com) – I couldn’t find those files anywhere.
