Jaiku is Now Open Source & Moved to Google App Engine

Jaiku is Twitter like Microblogging service and today it has been moved to Google app engine and entire project is declared as open source under Apache License 2.0. A little bit of history about jaiku, Jailku was founded in February 2006 and was purchased by Google on October 9, 2007.
Basic differences between Jaiku and its competitor Twitter is Lifestreaming, on jaiku you can share your online activities via Flickr, Last.fm of by mobile phone. However after google has acquired jaiku, it has moved to dead end with no service updates and no interest to keep alive.
Google had already announced in January, 2009 they will be moving jaiku to google app engine with support from a “volunteer team” of Google employees. From today no onwards google will no longer support jaiku.
The code is available as JaikuEngine on Google Code Project Hosting as of now. Anyone can set up and run their own JaikuEngine instance on Google App Engine. Now the future of jaiku is depended on open source community, you may contribute to jaiku project by joining the jaikuengine-discuss group to learn more and get started.
