iTunes is defintiely one of the best media players out there, but some of the media formats are not supported in the application. So, VLC Media Player is the next choice for most of the users. Since both iTunes and VLC are available for Windows and Mac, most people don’t prefer any other media players. Truth is, there are plenty of media players out there which offers interesting features for free. 5KPlayer is one of them, which lets you play videos up to 5K, listen to internet radio and supports AirPlay by default.
5KPlayer is a free application available for Windows and Mac OS X. After you complete the installation, you will be redirected to the home page of the app. The entire application carries a minimal design and the interface is pretty simple to understand. Either click the video and music icons in the homepage or just drag and drop the media files to play movies and songs. The built-in Internet Radio will let you play any online radio using its URL. Click the “Radio” button the homepage and enter the URL in the text box to start listening.
The in-built video downloader supports more than 300+ video sharing sites and lets you download videos to your library. All you have to do is, copy the URL of the video and click the YouTube button in the home page of the app. You will see a window as shown in the screenshot below. Now click the “Paste URL & Analyze” button to see the information of the video before you download. Click the Gear icon near the thumbnail to choose the resolution of the video.
AirPlay is one of the important features of Mac OS X, which lets you wirelessly stream music and videos to your other devices. 5KPlayer has that option built-in and lets you stream videos to your TV and other devices right from the application. All you need is an Apple TV and connected to the same WiFi Network to stream your videos.
