How to Untethered Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1 Using 24kpwn LLB Patch

Early today morning we had reported you about dev team’s success in getting untethered iPod touch 2G Jailbreak. Its not alone Dev team’s work but its hybrid team of ChronicDev, Dev Team and other members, who managed to find the unpatchable exploit 0×24000 (so only name of this jailbreak is 24kpwn) in iPod touch 2G and probably also works on iPhone 3G 2.2.1.
Right now the instruction to untethered iPod Touch 2G jailbreak are not so clear and bit complicated. If you are not sure how to do it then its better to wait for QuickPWN & Pwnage tool.
Here is guide on how to untethered jailbreak iPod touch 2G without custom boot logo posted by one of member of ipodtouchfans.com forums, this guide uses latest 24kpwn patch.
How to Untethered Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1 using 24kpwn (Windows Only)
1. Download unofficialsn0w 2.0 for Windows from here Download
2. Get the 2.2.1 iPod Touch Firmware HERE
3. Extract content of Unofficialsn0w.zip downloaded in first step
4. Rename the iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw downloaded in step 2 to OriginalFW.ipsw and place it in /IPSW present in unofficialsn0w folder extracted in step 3
5. Run IPSW.bat (It will take a while)
6. Right click on the jb.ispw (wil be created in /IPSW folder by IPSW.bat) and open with Winrar or 7.zip
7. Go into Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.n72ap.production\
8. Delete the LLB file.(optional since it will be replaced by the new one)
9. Replace (by dragging) with the LLB.n72ap.RELEASE.img3 file that’s in the same folder as the jb.ipsw.
10. Place your iPod Touch 2G into DFU mode, plug it in and run RUNME.exe
11. Shift + Restore to JB.ipsw in iTunes and you’re done!!!
Their are several ways to jailbreak iPod touch 2G 2.2.1 and this guide was one such guide. if you know even simple method to jailbreak ipod touch 2g then let us know we will add here.

also to put the ipod in DFU mode press and hold the power and home butten for ten seconds and then just the home button for 8 seconds.

same problem as billy other programs read it as DFU mode but it doesn’t get detected when i run runme.exe
Billy, you probably dont have libusb.exe installed. google it. i remember when i had the tethered jailbreak, that it required that to be installed. Great tutorial by the way, it worked like a charm. Thanks. (You might want to add that into the tutorial :). Also, billy, if you have vista, you might want to uninstall libusb after you do the jailbreak, because it seems to mess up vista. (or maybe its just mine, but it freezes my computer) also, make sure you dont have anything plugged into your usb. (if you have vista)

I followed the directions to the letter and after itfinishd it crashed my ipod it will not turn on.

OMFG It actually works…. OMFG now i can show off at school.. LoL don’t flame me for that what i just said plx. Anyway. I’ve just restored it and it turns on by it self and cydia works. Also just sold the semi-tethered to my friends at school for like $10 each as they can’t be stuffed to get the materials them selves, but i wasted like 20gs of bandwith since my computer, for some reason kept redownloading the .ispw.

i got it back by recovering with old firmware. sorry for freaking out i just want this to work and it did not after it finished the recovery it just went black.

Ok…. I’m having troubles…. I try to start IPSW.bat but it pops up and goes away like in half a second…. then I went to log and it says: error: Could not load IPSW

For all you noobs out there, to get your ipod in DFU mode, you have to first hold the home and power button for about 10 seconds, then the home button for about 15-20 seconds.

Everything worked for me up to step 11 under WinXP-Pro-SP2 with libusb.
When I tried to upload the custom image via Itunes (version 8.1.0.51), the ipod touch 2g (Modell MB533FD/Firmware 2.2.1 (5H11a) startet downloading the Image.
When the progress bar reached about 1/3 of its length, itunes popped up an error message “unknown error during restore” – unfortenatly i forgot the error number.
Same error with QuickFreedom (http://proudofmylife.net/ipod-touch-2g-jailbreak/)
After that erroro itouch always comes up in recovery-mode
itunes can however restore the original Firmware iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw, so that i can revive the itouch.
What now?

Hello yes I am building a GUI for the jailbreak and I was wondering if I could save myself from having to make another batch file by going into firmware bundles and replacing the original LLB patch with the new LLB patch(24kpwn patch, not patched IMG3)?

For all people that need help with the libusb thing.. When I was jailbreaking my iPod a few days ago, I installed libusb and all my ports died: my mouse and keyboard stopped working. I had to use an older keyboard and mouse, and i uninstalled libusb by going to start>control pannel> Uninstall a program> “LibUsb”. Then i read around what i did wrong and i read that you need to right click on the libusb exe or stup file, andthen click properties, then set it compatable to windows xp. This way all our ports will still work and wont crash.. Good Luck!!

yeah i have a problem with step 5 i did everything right but i run ipsw.batt and it pops up. immedeately shuts down and then gives me a log file and i click on that and it says couldn’t exicute ipsw.bat” or

Hi i am up to step 10 but when i click runme it tells me to put my ipod into recovery mode which i have done. Then to press a key and it says this application has failed to start because libusb0.dll was not found.

Followed instructions to the T. Restoring using the JB File. ITunes extracts and prepares for restoration and then brings up an unexpected error (13) upon restoration.

I had the same problem it could be because your computer firewall is blocking iTunes. just disable it while it jailbreaks and it should work, hope this helps
