Compared to Windows 7 and its previous versions, Windows 8 and 8.1 have better customizing options. The new Metro UI offers a lot of tweaks inside the system by default. Some of the major issues were fixed in the new Windows 8.1 update 1 and the interface looks pretty neat. It is enough for a basic user but people who want to do more customization, there are plenty of third party apps available on the internet. Previously, I wrote about “Start Screen Unlimited” to add gadgets and important options to your Windows 8 start screen. Today I’ve come with a much more powerful tool called “Ultimate Windows Tweaker”, which can completely customize the features and functions of the entire system. Here’s how it works.
The Ultimate Windows Tweaker is a freeware available for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 versions. It is a very small application (around 34oKB) and completely portable, which includes over 170 tweaks in it. You can download the app using the link at the end of this post. For Windows 7, the app was in version 2.2 and lots of improvements are made in the new version 3.1 for Windows 8 and 8.1. Once you complete the installation, you will see a window as shown in the screenshot above. The left panel contains all the categories and the right panel has the options and tweaks you can do. In the first option “System Information”, you can see your system configuration, as well as, an option to create a backup of your current system settings.
In the second option “Customization”, you can tweak the Taskbar, File Explorer, User interface and much more. If you have connected multiple displays, you can tweak the settings for both in this panel. Next, you have “User Accounts” option to change the logon information, remove shutdown button from logon screen and many more advanced options to customize a user account on Windows. In the “Performance” section, you can tweak the system performance by adjusting different actions during shutdown and when windows are not responding. Also, you can edit the Cache memory usage and different options related to system performance.
In the other sections like “Security, Internet Explorer, Context Menu” you have plenty of tweaks in its respective categories to customize the system settings. The Windows Club is the developer of Ultimate Windows Tweak application. You can see the detailed review of all these options in their blog. It is important to create a system backup, before you play with these tweaks. Share your experience about the app in the comments. Thanks for reading, do share this post with your friends.
