7 Simple Ways to Boot into Safe Mode in Windows 10

What is safe mode?

Safe mode is a process of starting Windows in its basic state with some limited drivers and files. How to Boot into Safe Mode in Windows 10

  1. Using the System Configuration Tool

This is the basic and quick method to boot windows 10 in safe mode. System Configuration tool allows us to perform various operations in our system and it is capable of booting our system in normal and safe modes too. All the detailed steps are given below to do this method.

  1. Press Window+R buttons together.Type msconfig in Run command
  2. When the Run command opens, type msconfig and press enter
  3. Go to the boot tab in system configuration tool and mark the checkbox given before safe boot option. (set the additional options to minimal as shown in the screenshot)Enable safe boot option
  4. Click on apply and then Ok.
  5. You will be prompted to restart your pc, click on Restart now to apply the changes.

After your pc restarts, it will enter into safe mode. If you want to exit the safe mode, repeat the whole process by just clearing the safe boot check box.

  1. Using Windows 10 Lock Screen

Windows 10 offers Windows Recovery Environment where you can do various troubleshooting and recovery operations. Fortunately, it allows us to boot our systems in the safe mode very easily. To do it, a detailed guide is given below.

  1. Go to Windows 10 lock screen. You can do it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together and then clicking on lock.
  2. Once you reach the lock screen press and hold the Shift button and click on the Restart option by going to the Power button given in bottom right corner of the lock screen.Press shift and restart together
  3. Now your pc will restart and enter into Windows Recovery Environment. Click on Troubleshoot option there.Click on Troubleshoot

  1. Enable F8 Safe Mode Using Command Prompt

Command Prompt could also do great to enter into safe mode in Windows 10. To do this, follow the steps given below.

  1. Go to Windows 10 search bar and type Command Prompt
  2. Right click on Command Prompt application and select Run as Administrator.
  3. When the main window is opened, type these text given below and click the Enter button.

  1. Once you get the message of ‘The operation completed successfully’ close the Command Prompt and you can use F8 now to enter into safe mode.
  2. Now restart your pc and press F8 multiple time when the booting process starts.
  3. Now, you will be entered into Windows Recovery Environment and you have to repeat the process given in Method 2.
  4. Using Windows 10 Recovery Drive

If you have a recovery drive already created for your Windows 10 then you can use it to access safe mode. The whole process for doing this method is given below.

  1. Attach your recovery drive to pc and boot it normally.
  2. Now, you will be automatically redirected to same Windows Recovery Environment main window.
  3. Follow the rest process same as given in Method no 2.
  1. Force Windows 10 to open advanced boot options

Windows 10 has the feature of launching advanced boot options when there is an error in the normal startup process. You can do manual interrupts while windows 10 loads to open advanced boot options forcefully. It is a cruel method for Windows but if we do not have access to advanced boot options after doing the above procedures then it will surely do its job effectively. To do this method, follow the steps given below.

  1. Start your pc and when the Windows starts to load with a moving circle press and hold the power button to stop its booting process.
  2. Do this step simultaneously for 2-3 times and window will automatically redirect to its advanced boot option.
  3. You have to do the rest steps as given in method number 2 after the third step.
  1. Using Command Prompt

Command Prompt is also effective to enter advanced boot options where you can access Windows 10 safe mode. The complete procedure for this method is given below.

  1. Open Windows 10 search bar and type Command Prompt.
  2. Right click on Command Prompt icon and Click on Run as administrator.
  3. Now, type the command written below.

shutdown.exe /r /otype command and enter

  1. Click on Enter after typing this command and your pc will restart automatically.
  2. You will now get entered into advanced boot options.
  3. Follow the same process as given in Method 2.
