We have already informed you about New search engine hint rel=”canonical” announced by all three major search engines Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. Using this smart tag Webmasters can avoid duplicate content and canonical urls.

Rel=”Canonical” lets you to publicly specify your preferred version of a URL. Even though announcement has been made a few hours ago, some one has managed to develop Canonical URL plugin for WordPress, Drupal Modules & Magneto (eCommerce).

The drupal module listed here does not yet, apparently, support this capability. The only mention of a canonical redirect occurs at a global level of module configuration, which means it would lack the intelligence to handle pages on a case-by-case basis. Checking the “canononical” option, just for grins, did not appear to have any associated behavior. It’s a great module, by the way… but for different purposes.
