iPhone dev team has been very fast in craking iPhone 3G and iPod Touch Firmware 2.2.1. They have successfully jailbreaked firmware 2.2.1 and updated QuickPwn and PwnageTool. Latest QuickPWN 2.2.5 and PwnageTool 2.2.5 is available for download on bittorrent.
We have written small guide on how to jailbreak iPhone/iPod Touch firmware 2.2.1 with QuickPWN 2.2.5. One of biggest issue for all those first time iPhone jailbreakers is they do not know what’s difference between QuickPWN and PwnageTool and which one to use and how to use to jailbreak iPhone.

When to Use PwnageTool 2.2.5
You can use QuickPWN 2.2.5 or PwnageTool 2.2.5 to jailbreak iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2.1. If you need to keep the ability to Unlock your iPhone 3G after upgrading firmware 2.2.1 using yellowsn0w then you must use PwnageTool 2.2.5.

How to Use PwnageTool 2.2.5 to JailBreak iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2.1
1. Download iPhone/ iPod Firmware 2.2.1 and save it on your computer (Preferably create a folder Pwnage and save in that folder this is for simplicity)
2. Download PwnageTool 2.2.5, latest iPhone firmware 2.2.1 jailbreak tool.
3. Keep your iPhone connected to your computer.
4. Double click PwnageTool 2.2.5 to mount it and create shortcut of PwnageTool in pwnage folder.
5. Now Launch PwnageTool and click ok on warring message “PwnageTool is a free tool”
6. Select Expert Mode from Top left menu.
7. Now select Device i.e iPod Touch , iPhone and click on Blue arrow icon to continue.
8. PwnageTool will auto detect your Firmware 2.2.1 IPWS file downloaded in step 1, if not then click browse and select proper file.
9. Select the apps you want to install from given menu, at least cydia installer and click on build to start custom firmware building process.
10. Now select location to save custom IPWS file created by PwnageTool.
11. PwnageTool may take 10-15 min to complete Custom IPSW file creation.
12. Enter Admin password.
13. PwnageTool will display a prompt “has your iPhone 3G been pwned before?” If you are unsure, click no.
14. Turnoff your iPhone as per directions keep it connected.
15. This step is important for you, Do follow PwnageTool instruction properly.
You will be asked to press following key sequences
- Hold the Home button for 5 seconds,
- Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds,
- Then release the Power button while continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode

16. A message will be displayed when your iPhone enters in DFU mode.
17. Now launch iTunes and restore your iPhone with your custom firmware bundle by holding the “Alt/Option” button and clicking “restore”.
18. Browse and Select the custom IPSW file you created (iPhone1.2_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw) and click “open”.
19. iTunes will restore your iPhone, Process may take 10-15 minutes.
20 Your iPhone will reboot automatically
21. That’s it, if you have followed above steps properly then you will have your iPhone 3G 2.2.1 jailbreaked.

Hi.. I have just purchased Iphone 3G 8GB from the sole distributor of Apple Iphone here in Saudi Arabia with the Firmware 2.2. If in case I update the software through iTunes 8 of Apple, will it lock-up the Iphone or not? I am trying to copy MP3 to the Iphone but I cannot find a way to do it, can someone give some idea how.
NO … it will NOT LOCKED your Iphone. I am a user of MOBILY Iphone 3G 8GB also and had updated my Iphone through iTunes 8.0.2 with Firmware 2.2.1 one day after purchasing my Iphone and it was not LOCKED. Here is some TIPS to add MP3’s to your Iphone. First make sure that your iTunes is empty and nothing on the list. Then add at least 5 MP3 to iTunes and after that SYNC your Iphone manually using MUSIC and click Recently Added and SYNC… Thats it you have your MP3 on your Iphone. GOOD LUCK

My iPhone was jailedbreak before, I update my iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 and try to use PwnageTool 2.2.5, following the instructions and it fails every time. I try also with Quickpwn and was out of luck– it get stuck on “Quickpwn is about to run…” Help!
