Facebook is a great way to not only share your thoughts and ideas, but also to keep in touch with friends and family. It’s possible to chat with people and send images back and forth, but one thing Facebook does lack is the ability to share other files. This is something that Pipes addresses.
This is a Facebook app that brings peer-to-peer files transfers to the popular social network. Unlike other file sharing tools, there is no need to install any desktop software — everything is taken care of through a Facebook app.
You can install the app by visiting the Pipe page and clicking the Go to App button.
This will take you to the Facebook page for Pipe where you will need to click another Go to App button.
Use the Friends menu to choose somebody to send a file to.
You can then either click the picture of the pipe and browse to the file you’d like to send, or simply drag and drop the file onto the image. There are then a couple of options for sending files. The first is to store the file in an online locker to it can be downloaded by your friend whenever they are ready — if they do not have Pipe installed, they’ll be prompted to install it.
Just click the Send file to locker button.
If your friend is online and already has Pipe installed in their Facebook account, a direct transfer is possible. Just move to the Direct transfer tab and you’re good to go.
Pipe is able to handle files up to 1GB in size which should cater for most circumstances. It’s an ideal option for files that are too large to attach to an email and if you don’t like the idea of using a cloud storage service.
