Hi! Thanks for all the great info. But when I hold option and press restore, it doesn’t give me an option to choose my 2.2 firmware. I tried it twice.
Hi there, I’ve try the above method on my 3g, but it’s failed. Iphone will hang and no response at all.
Have tried several time.
I just need to jailbreak only, cos i’m using a factory unlocked iphone, so unlocking has no issue since iTunes will unlock itself on my iphone.
Thanks

Didn’t work for iPhone 3G
don’t try with 3G guys…

grts
It does not work with iPhone 3G. anybody with the luck at all?
This doesn’t work for the iPhone 3G.
for my iphone 3G, i go through these steps, but just when its about to finish restoring, it gives me a “1013 error” and my phone goes back to the recovery mode. Anyone knows how to get passed this?
Thanks!
had tried many times with dfu mode and without and the only thing i get is error1403, any solutions
Wont work once 3G’s firmware gets updated u cant downgrade. Error 1403 is all u get.
Error 1013/1014/1015
This error message occurs when you downgrade or upgrade to a different baseband than the firmware your restoring to has. This message does NOT mean the restore failed – it simply means the phone firmware does not match the baseband.
1. Disconnect the iPhone3G from iTunes when it comes across the error 1013. (Actually the firmware 2.2 is already successfully installed)
2. Launch Quickpwn 2.2-1 at this time, quickpwn will pop up a window telling you to hold down both of the power & home buttons for 15 seconds then release the home button but keep holding the power button for another 2 seconds to re-activate your iPhone3G.
3. Then you will see a white apple as usual and the iPhone 3G is now re-activating.
4. You can see a normal screen with those lovely icons and your service back to normal.
5. Jailbreak it using the ready launched Quickpwn tool.
YEHEY!!! it worked for me…. im using a 2G iPhone 16G…Thanks Guys!!
God Bless & more power!
I done wat u said shani, its working all right but modem firmware is still on 02.30.03 will that have any consequences?
thanx
where do you get the firmware 2.2?
Trying to restore my 3g phone to 2.2 from 2.21.
I downloaded( iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw)
But when I hold down option and click restore it will not let me open the firmware ??!!
itunes is seeing the phone .
How do i get it to oen the firmware ?
I tried downgrading to 2.2 as well, but the baseband remains at 02.30.03. Is there any way to downgrade 02.30.03???
I guess I have a brick then.
Just bought a second hand 3G iphone, which was jailbroken and unlocked. In my messy attempts to delete the previous owners info, I managed to erase everything. When I plugged it into iTunes, it upgraded to 2.2.1. I have a Rogers SIM card, but it is just a standard one. I am in Vancouver, and want to connect using my existing Rogers number (it worked fine before I screwed it up), now I cannot do anything. When I try the above, I get an error – not the 1303/1403 or whatever other have – and then iTunes tells me my SIM card is not supported.
Is my new toy now useless? I am new to all this, and obviously have no idea what I am doing. Right now, I cannot even use it as a PDA. nada. I guess I am going back to my Palm.
Ok i use your guide and i did it to my iphone 3g i was using firmware 2.2.1 and now im in firmware 2.2
it work nice :P thnx all
when i make the downgrade my i phone was always start to DFU Mode but i use the quickPwn and when this app finish add cyida and installer all things work fine and im now with firmware 2.2

:D
i have a 3g 8gig iphone and I downgraded the firmware to 2.1 but I want to put it back to 2.2 so that my firmware and my baseband match so I can use yellowsnow , I downloaded the 2.2 restore file but when I click option-restore I search for the 2.2 firmware but it wont open it where I can restore it . When I click on the 2.2 firmware it opens another folder beside it that says firmware in bold , I then click it and it opens up another box beside it that shows dfu and something else but the open box underneath never gets the dark black where I can open it please help. I am using mac os x 10.5.6 running itunes 8.0.2. I can unlock the iphone 1st gen no problem its just since apple did all this Sh*t to keep us from unlocking the iphone 3g’s iv’e kinda fell behind on how to do this new stuff any help would be greatley appreciated thanks alot

I carrier appier (null)(null) so I downgrade it and still the same… is anything else I can do to make it back… please Advise…
Hey, just wondering, if I go through all of this; will my iPod Touch actually BE restored? As in will my music be erased, etc?
For some reason my audio has had a tendency to pause by itself since I did the 2.2.1 upgrade and I want to get rid of the problem but don’t want to go through my entire library again.
Thanks if anyone can help.
why is everyone confused? sorry to say this but by reading the steps above and the comment by the users here i am really confused. the above step is a normal step which i always use on my windows so that i don’t have to download the firmware directly. but if you want to downgrade with this step you will probably end with an error message. my question is simple is there a way to downgrade the baseband of iphone 3g 2.2.1 which is 02.30.03 to a baseband of 2.2?
Same question as dan, will this delete all my music and apps if I downgrade my iPod to 2.2?
where i have to put downloaded 2.2 firmware file so i can select it by holding shift+restore?
I have same question as Dan. I aslo get an error but when turn on my iphone and see under settings, the version says 2.2 but modem firmware has not changed! (02.30.03) then I cant use yellowsn0w to unlock my iphone. Does anyone have a soloution for this??
there is no unlock solution of 2.2.1 with baseband 2.30.03 without sim adapter,, and you cannot downgrade to 2.2
Hi Guys. Praying for some help here. I accidentally updated my 3G to 2.2.1 through itunes. Tried downgrading to 2.2 through shift+restore in itunes and got the 1013 error (which I believe is normal?!). I then used Quickpwn with the iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw file. I keep getting to the last screen where I’m told to “wait for the iphone to connect in recovery mode”. That’s it…nothing else happens. It never moves on to the “hold down the home button for 5 seconds” stage.
Any advice?
Can anyone confirm whether it is even possible to fully restore to 2.2 after upgrading to 2.2.1 by mistake. I bought the phone unlocked so I only have an Orange sim card and my wife’s O2 simcard doesn’t work once it has been restored…
u can restore ur iphone to the fw 2.2 but the baseband still 2.30.33, so unlucky for who upgraded the iphone to 2.2.1 through itunes, include me :(
so…keep waiting dev team…
regards,
It worked successfully on my Iphone 3G. I very happy. Thanks for hero.

kid, with the downgrade, did u manage to unlock your phone aswell?
how about yellowsn0w? after downgrade could you unlock your simlock?
Big confusion, every one is still happy by making their iphone a touch ipod. No one clearly mentioning will it still be unlocked if u downgraded to 2.2 from 2.2.1. And how about the baseband, if the remained the same, then I presume, it will not be unlocked. Kindly share the whole experience, not just an episode of what happened with your iphone.
worked perfect thanx
Hi.
i’m working with a 3g iphone on a Mac. Accidentally upgraded to firmware 2.21. Am trying to restore but nothing happens when i click on firmware 2.2 which i downloaded. What am i doing wrong?

I FINALLY HAVE UNLOCKED MY IPHONE 3G
i did it the way its says here but now network ig gone not even working on rogers sim anybody help me what should i do ?
Wow! I would have never thought of that, I thought the reason for the error, was an effort by apple, to prevent jailbreaking and unlocking. I would have never known that the firmware was actually already installed! You have no idea how much anger I have been through trying to downgrade, had I not found this, I would have thrown my phone at the wall. Do you have a paypal? I’m broke atm, but when I get a few few bucks, I would like to donate, just email me your paypal. Thanks again.
Iphone 3G
Downgraded to 2.2 quickpawn 225 unlock baseband staid 2.30.03
Downgraded to 2.1 quickpawn 22-1 unlock baseband staid 2.30.03
Any help to downgrade base band ?
Read all the problems. Simple solution
1. People who have 2G iPhone dont need any downgrade, coz its easily unlockable by quickpwn or pwnage tools.
2. People with 3G iPhone accidently or genuinely got the firmware 2.2.1
-first JAILBREAK it using quickpwn or Pwnage Tools
-then open CYDIA in iPhone
-install FUZZYBAND Downgrader
-Open it from menu, it will check the bootloader and
baseband
-if ur bootloader version there is 05.08 or 5.8 it will
tell u its downgradeable and do it and ur baseband is
2.28 and u can easily downgrade it and unlock it.
-and if ur bootloader is 05.09 or 5.9 dude u r in trouble
and ur iPhone cannt be unlocked up till today. I mean
its impossible. Sorry coz thats the weak hole Apple
covered in the bootloader to make DEV TEAM suicide.
3.People with iPod Touch 1st Generation dont need to download it, they can just jailbreak it
4.People with iPod Touch 2G shall not risk it coz i read somewhere it wont work.
People thanks for appreciations of those who wanted this info. If anyone knows more plz share. ONE THING MORE FROM ALL MY KNOWLEDE Any brick assosiated with operating system or firmware can be undone. So feel free, lifes so small for experimenting.
got an iphone 3g in Nigeria with firmware 2.2.1 and baseband 3.30. got it unlocked in the u.s with this gevey sim chip, inserted my mtn sim n got network for about 3seconds then it disapeard since. dont know if the chip is damaged or the unlock is messed up.
and all these comments am seeing about exeriences with this unlocking method, its not a 100% right? but one thing i need to know is that, if it doesn’t work, can the phone be damaged and not work again?
somebody help me please. this phone cost me an arm and a leg, so need to know the risks involved in trying.
help can be directed to my e-mail.
nah man. dont worry. With Gevey’s Turbo chip its not unlocked. Its just a method to bypass the lock. And I have read many a times that it works perfectly. If it stopped working for u, check the method of sim insertion. So feel free. u wont be facing any risks except that i have read somewhere some fool tried it wrongly and put the gevey sim without the iphone sim holder and while trying to extract it with some pin, he destroyed its sim contact pins. But I am sure any good mobile hardware wendor would have fixed that too. So stop worrying and just try it according to the book.
can’t seem to work this method.
must my iphone 3g be jailbroken first before attempting to downgrade?
@ dr. virk – thanx mehn. so u mean with gevey turbo sim there’s no kind of unlocking done on the phone actually, or is there some kind of installation that’s required for the turbo sim to be active? because i just jail broke mine, n i think any kind af installation/unlocking or wateva that might have been done before will be undone, right?
guys!
accidentally i upgraded my iphone 3g to 2.2.1 throw itunes, as you might know it is almost impossible to unlock. not because of the firmware, but because of the base band (modem firmware).
i tried everything and it was almost impossible!
but it’s done! and it is unlocked.
all you have to do is…..
get the firmware 2.2 (official)
downgrade using itunes (pressing shift+restore on sumary board)
if your baseband is 2.30 it will give you an error lile “1013″, but do´n’t worry the firmware is installed.
then it will say that iphone is on “dfu” (service mode) while this run the QuickPwn and jailbraik the iphone
install a 2.2.1 custom firmware
install from cydia the program fuzzyband to downgrade the base band to 2.28
install yellowsn0
and thats it, it is done and working
Hi.

I have gevey turbo sim, but I have to activate my phone to make the phone part work. What can I do?!?! Please help me!! If I can’t activate it, I will only have a very (!!!!) expencive iPod…
