It has been almost a week since Microsoft launched Windows 8.1, the long-awaited update to fix what many considered a bad operating system. Regardless of your opinions concerning Windows 8 or the improvements that have been made in Windows 8.1, the chances are fairly good that you either are, or will be, using it.
One thing that few will dispute is that Microsoft does an excellent job of letting its customers tinker and tweak, moving things around, enabling and disabling features and using what background image they wish.
In honor of the recent launch, the company has unveiled ten new themes in its customization gallery. Despite this being an update for Windows 8.1, all will work just fine under Windows 8 — and Windows 7, for that matter.
“I am thrilled to bring you a brand-new panoramic theme featuring dramatic portraits of many different species in their natural habitats. This set of sweeping scenes is designed to smoothly span dual monitors”, claims Microsoft’s Jennifer Shepherd. The theme is titled simply “Animals”, and consists of 13 images.
Other themes announced include two fantastic new tropical ones titled Glowing Beaches and Sunny Shores. These consist of 14 and 13 backgrounds and depict places where many of us may wish to spend our winters.
If our feathered friends are more your cup of tea, then there is something for you as well — two themes titled Small Birds and Large Birds have been added to the Windows Personalization Gallery and await your download.
How about cars? Microsoft has that too — “The first one is a celebration of Classic Sports Cars, including a 1955 Aston Martin, ’56 Mercedes-Benz, ’58 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, the ’60 Corvette, ’64 Porsche, and many more. We also included some newer but equally stunning examples, like the 2004 Ferrari Enzo and the McClaren F1. This is a big theme, showcasing 19 sleekly beautiful models”.
Muscle Cars also can find a home on your desktop, bringing along old classics like the Mustang and the Camaro, two of the most powerful cars of their era.
Now its time to pick one and add a bit of new life to your desktop — or perhaps grab several so you always have a fresh rotation of cool images to choose from.
