Wikipedia is one of the greatest sources of information. It has wide variety of topics with complete information about many important jargons and terms you need. The only thing you need is the Internet connection. Sometimes we may don’t have an Internet connection especially while we are travelling. So, to help you in those times, today I came with an application called “Kiwix”, which lets you use Wikipedia on the go.
Kiwix is a client application for Wikipedia. It lets you download the complete content in your preferred language. The size of the entire content in English is 18 GB. It is bit large for mobile devices but it gives a complete offline access to the entire application. So if you are a regular user of Wikipedia, you definitely need this one.
Kiwix is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. Also it is available for Android devices. You can download the application from Kiwix’s website. Once you download and open the application, choose your language and start downloading the content. It is not necessary to download the entire content, you have choices to select your content which actually reduce the download size.
Kiwix is a portable application, you don’t need to install it in your computer. Just unzip the compressed file and start using it. So you can carry Kiwix in any portable device for instant access. All the downloaded content will be available in the library of the application. Library has an inbuilt search engine to find the content based on your search keywords.
After you download the content to library, you can export them as PDF/HTML files to your computer. It supports more than 100 languages and create tabs for quick content navigation. It has an inbuilt content manager and downloader to organize the content you download. You can either download the content via HTTP or Torrent Clients.
It is a must have application for teachers, students and people who travel a lot. Once you download the content, you can update them later when you go online. So, it is a pretty handy application for offline Wikipedia access. Try this on your computer and Android devices and share your experience with us in the comments. Thanks for reading, do share this post with your friends.
