Change Firefox Google Search Bar with New Google Favicon Image

Google Old New FaviconEvery one is now aware of Google’s new favicon, A small ‘g’ of Google. This change came as surprised to all, There are many services which are still using Google’s Old Favicon. Like Google Search Bar in firefox also has Google’s old Favicon. You can update the Firefox’s default Google search plugin to show the new Google search Favicon icon. 

Steps to Change Firefox Google Search Bar with New Google Favicon

→ Locate the searchplugins folder in your Firefox install folder. (typically C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ on Windows).

→ Open the google.xml file with a text editor.

→ Locate a section that starts with <Image width=”16? height=”16?>. You will see it is followed by a long series of characters (the encoded Google icon).

→ Replace it with this equally unreadable code: the new encoded Google icon. Ensure the closing </Image> stays there.

→ Save the file and restart Firefox.

    Nah, I feel I’m betetr off with the old favicon since I don’t like the new one :) I hope Firefox 3 doesn’t add the new favicon by default. Or you will have revert this trick.

    can you tell us how to create custom fav icons, and encode them for use with this trick. Personally i don’t like either icon for google search.
