Gmail

Gmail my favorite Email Service and probably wildly used email service. What I like most about Gmail is mail search facility and spam filter. Till today none of spam mail has been able to break into my inbox. I remember how much it was frustrating to keep inbox free from spam mails on my yahoo email id, but Gmail has made my life much simpler

One thing which still bugs me is that Unread Spam mail count, and every time I open my Gmail inbox I have to mark all spam mail as read or delete it manually. Today while searching for solution to unread spam mail i got really simple trick.

This Trick uses Gmail filter capability to mark all unread spam mails as read.

Steps To Mark All Spam Mails as Read Automatically

Open your Gmail Account then click on settings followed by Create Filter.

Create Filter

Enter “in:spam” in Has word’s Filed of Create filter.

Select Next Step and Check Mark as Read & press Create Filter button. (Check delete if you want to delete Spam Emails automatically although not recommended)

This did not work for me.
I applied it to the messages that showed up with the filter, and they still came up marked as unread.

As well when I proceeded to the Next Step of the filter creation an alert window notified me saying:

“Warning: Filter searches containing ‘label:’, ‘in:’, or ‘is:’ criteria are not recommended, as these criteria will never match incoming mail.

Do you still wish to continue to the next step?”

I continued and applied the filter to the spam messages that were showing as unread.

They did not get marked read.

I am using the Google Apps gmail.
The settings are the same regardless.
