It worked for me after several attempts, but then once I turned my iPhone off and then back on again I had no signal.

I have redone the process a couple more times and everything seems to be OK now, just be persistent or wait for an update of yellowsn0w :D

…yeah… how do i run yellowsn0w? It says in the ultimate guide to run it after installing it but there doesn’t seem to be anything allowing it to run.
Anyway, I’m in Australia locked on with Optus. Installed the yellowSn0w, rebooted a few times, reinstalled it a few times but no success – the network lock stays on.
Seems to me that more work is needed with yellowSn0w to be generally usable. If anyone knows of any step or trick to follow please let us know. Looks like most of the comments are about failed attempts.

Tried 2nite again with the new version 0.9.6 and it worked.
Fantastic. Thank you DevTeam – you are champions.

Interesting thing though. Out of my own interest I uninstalled the YellowSn0w after the unlocking has succeeded and the SIM card would not be recognised.
Went to preferences/general/about to see the info and it was showing in Carrier: Carrier 29 instead of previous Optus 29. However it would not find the other network.
After that I went back to Cydia and reinstalled the YellowSn0w and the network came back.
So as I understand it, it sort of hijacks the execution when network lock check is called in the iPhone and fakes the returned results – right?
If so, does it mean that Apple can release a firmware update and the YellowSn0w would stop functioning hence the lock would come back?

I Jailbreaked 3G iphone 2.2 firmware (restore from iTunes) with QuickPwn22. The original iphone was new not activated “out of the box” with 2.1 firmware.

When I started the unlocking, Cydia is launched there is a “Network Error”, “Unable to load, No internet connection.” I used a secured Wi-Fi with password. The iphone recognized the Wi-Fi. I have access to the internet with a loptop through this Wi-Fi.

In Cydia I used Manage>Sources>Edit>Add>http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com>Add source Message “Did not find Repository The indicated repository could not be found. This could be because you are trying to add a legacy installer repository (these are not supported). Also, this interface is only capable of working with exact repository URL’s. If you host a repository and are having issues please contact the author of Cydia with any questions you have.”

I have no idea what any of this means.

Please ADVISE!! Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The secret to all your questions lies on your sim card. If you have a old AT&T card which came with the iPhone with no sim lock . Do all the steps then insert the AT&T card. It will search then no service will pop up, when that appears sucess. Take out the sim then just insert any sim at all what la a unlocked iPhone 3g at your disposal. Thx devteam you guys are the best. What can we do with out your hard working guys.(make sure sim has no pin lock very very important)

THANX DUDE !!! I installed bossprefs and yellowsnow bossprefs, and it did not work. Then I found your post and realised that you actually have to install 3 apps not just the two. Install and update bossprefs, bossprefs yellowsnow and then add the source above and install yellowsnow. Make sure that you have disabled PIN code !!! (it will not work unless you disable it) reboot the phone without the SIM, and now insert your 3rd party sim.

Boom ! This worked for me.

I am on Netcom Norway, iPhone 3G firm. 2.2

Hi all

I just need to understand what I am meant to be doing.
My iphone is a 3G Firmware 2.2 with Baseband 02.11.07.
It uses a piggy back sim currently.

I’ve been told not to download anything from Itunes, as I could end up locking my phone, ok so the 1st step above says I need to A. Download latest iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2 from Apple. B. Use iTunes to Upgrade Your iPhone 3G 2.1 to 2.2.
C. Download QuickPWN 2.2 and Jailbreak your iPhone 3G 2.2 to Install Cydia and Installer.

Are these steps possible as if I upgrade doe sit not stop my iphone from conecting and therfore how can I download quickPWN,

Sorry very confused

aaahh, i got my hopes up after having tried everything but hardware hacks in order to get my California bought iPhone 3G work in the Cayman Island using a local “Cable & Wireless” SIM card (one out of 2 providers here).

i do appreciate all the hard work people are putting into this, it’s an amazing community feeling, exchange and donations from people worldwide, and it’s beautiful to see. i will have to wait until yellowsn0w comes out of beta and simply hope for the best. i’ve only seen one guy with a iPhone 3G that works here, and he had his SIM unlocked by some jamaican dude (in Jamaica). BTW, worth mentioning, some local stores charge as much as CI$125 to unlock iPhones any generation around here, seriously capitalizing on non-technical people. but perhaps it’s fair, there’s obviously a market for it, and it does take a bit of time to grasp the concepts and learn the various methods.

peace

I had the 3G with 2.01 firware on it unlocked with a turbosim. I used a friend’s card to backup and upgrade the phone to 2.2 to find out that the old turbosim no longer worked. I jailbroke it with quickpwn 2.2 and then added the yellowsn0w source to Cydia and installed it. Popped in my Tmobile Sim card, rebooted and it worked perfect. Got a text as soon as it turned on and called a friend immediately. It didn’t take as long to find a signal either like it normally did with the turbosim. Thanks!!! Now, if they just come out with a version that I can get the 3G signal using Tmobile, I will be golden!

I freaked out not knowing trick of “holding the shift command while clicking on restaure in Itunes” (allowing to chose the 2.2) It then started to update :-SSSS

So Neos like me beware!

Overwise so far so good works perfect…!!

sim. is there a file out there to do this?

I just got my 3G with 3.0 firmware (setting > general > about > version 3.0). I tried yellowsn0w, and it didn’t work for me since it only work for 02.28.0. I got a Invalid Sim message after ran the yellowsn0w. After some time google, I found http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/06/unlock-iphone-3g-30-with-ultrasn0w.html which works great. One shot and done.

Hope it helps and save some time for anyone trying the same thing.

hi LITTLEP,
you will have to use a program called “redsn0w” for a 3G 3.0 iphone to be jailbroken…then you use ultrasn0w to unlock..

yellowsn0w only works with older iphones,

just google for tutorials for your iphone version..
if you need more help please email me dj69brisbane@gmail.com
