iPhone Dev-team had announced about Project “Yellowsn0w” iPhone 3G soft Unlock tool and also posted Demo video of Yellowsn0w. As per promise by dev-team Yellowsn0w is now available for download on this New Year’s Eve (a bit late).

Yellowsn0wis the world’s first software unlock for the iPhone 3G. With yellowsn0w you can unlock your iPhone 3G firmware 2.2 and use it with any other carriers apart from AT&T. iPhone dev-team had warned to all iPhone users planning to jailbreak iPhone 3G firmware 2.2 not to upgrade to baseband 02.28.0 as Yellowsn0w will only work with iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2 with baseband 2.11.07.

But now you can safely ignore that warning as Dev-Team has managed to get yellowsn0w to work with iPhone 3G baseband 02.28.0, So no need to worry if you have already upgraded your iPhone 3G 2.2 with baseband 02.28

Recent updated message on this post, it’s clear that the soft unlock (yellowsn0w) will now be only for baseband 02.28.0 (the most recent baseband). Hence you need to upgrade and jailbreak your iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2 baseband 02.28.0 to use yellowsn0w.

1. Download iPhone 3g Firmware 2.2

2. Jailbreak iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2 Using QuickPWN 2.2 and add Cydia/Installer.

Please Note: The DevTeam says that once you are done installing yellowsn0w through Cydia go back to the main menu on Cydia and restart your iPhone with the 3rd party SIM installed. Wait for the slide to unlock screen, and then wait 10-15 seconds. If you don’t see your carrier name pop up you must remove your SIM, insert it again, and wait 10 seconds. (The DevTeam plans on elimintating this step)

    I did not get any signal, it don’t even search for carrier network and just have …….

    Was using 0.9.4 previously before i turn off my phone and it works fine. After i turn back on my phone and its not working anymore. So, i updated to 0.9.5 and its not working now.

    IPhone 3G 2.2 Froze whilst it was being Pwn with QuickPwn 2.2?
    During Pwning process error message on itunes popped up ( http://s548.photobucket.com/albums/ii343... ) which did not stop Pwning process but after Pwning was done installing it’s components, when it came time to boot it did but it froze on the Pinneapple screen. It has been like that for several hours. Anyone experienced anything familiar? Any chances to bringing the iPhone back to life?

    Obs. I have tried over and over again all the resets (hard and soft) and nothing seems to work, it flashes every now and then and iPhoto pops up and QuickPwn tries to pick it up as well but only to find out after the whole press this hold that scheme that it doesn’t work and it is still varying from frozen pineapple to phone being off!

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

    yes. w mine happened the same story few days ago. what I did was to jailbreak it again usung Pwning. if that does not solve your problem, try iliberty first, then Pwning. hope it will work for u as well. good luck

    Has anyone tried the yellowsn0w software? I run it last night on my iPhone 3G, firmware 2.2 and it unlocked it, but it wont pick up any signal, i’m trying to use it on TMobile.. any ideas anyone?

    when I try to add the yellowsnOw nsource to sources I get this error message.

    Did Not Find Repository
    The indicated repository could not be found. This could be because you are trying to add a legacy Installer repository (these are not supported).

    [i] have tried many times .Any Ideas why I cant add this source. Installer wont allow that link also.

    I had to see why unlocked iPhone 3G 2.2, baseband 02.28.0 doesn’t work with M-tel in Bulgaria but works with both operators in Kuwait. When I disable the PIN request from the SIM card, after restart, the phone works with no problems. I changed another SIM – same result – no PIN, iPhone works, PIN on, iPhone doesn’t see provider. If I change the SIM without restart result is no carrier, only ___. So the SIM should be with PIN disabled, then phone switched off and after that on. Option from “Settings”, “Phone”, “SIM PIN” is not available when PIN is ON. You need another phone to change that on the SIM, as it is SIM property not the iPhone one.

    For FW 2.2.1 with baseband 2.30.03 cannot be unlocked by yellowsn0w or any other tool currently.

    Or you have FW 2.2 but with baseband 2.30.03 also cannot be unlocked. Why ? Because you have the baseband 2.30.03 and it cannot be changed.

    So for those with baseband 2.30.03, just wait for the dev to have a solution that can unlock your iphone and there is no need to spam or keep asking “when ? how ?” there is NO use for those questions. Have fun waiting for your unlocked solution.

    P/S : If you cannot wait, just SELL off your current Iphone and buy a new UNLOCKED Iphone. Then next time, you won’t need to ask so many questions.

    Unfortunately piggyback simcards are not a good solution, you keep loosing connection and the iPhone constantly refuses the sim card…

    If you were thinking to buy an iPhone and then unlock it please do not do it, Dev-Team is working on the future firmware and respective baseband but no one really knows if they will be successful. From now until June/ July Dev-Team will not release any unlock, they are afraid that apple will close the unlock with a baseband release.

    And again piggyback simcards are a really bad option, they do not work very well and they can break your simcard slot… You were warned!!!

    i also used bootloader to downgrade my firmware 2.2.1 baseband from 2.30.03 to 2.28.0
    installed yellowsn0w, rebooted my iphone with my new sim card but it came up a message that said that “different sim detected, please connect to itnes”, then i connected my iphone and it said that the sim card was invalid for this phone

    i want to know how to really unlock my iphone 3g, baseband 2.28.0 and firmware 2.2.1
    my carrier is claro (guatemala), and i want to use my tigo/comcel sim on my iphone

    I get the same, my phone is from Movistar of spain, and it gives just for a short blink, invalid Sim, and it doesn’t find any network.
    I’ve got baseband 2.28.0 and fw2.2 and I just don’t get it…
