WordPress 2.8 Development Journey Started

WordPress Development is pretty fast as compared to any other blogging platform, an example of this is year 2008 saw two major release wordpress 2.5 and wordpress 2.7 and several sub version releases of wordpress which includes bug fixes, patches, security fixes as well as enhancements. WordPress 2.7 was one of most enhanced release of WordPress which has given new look and icons to WordPress 2.7 dashboard.

Now here comes surprise for you, WordPress Team has tightened their belt to start working on WordPress 2.8 Development. Jane Wells from Development Team has posted a new blog post on official wordpress blog roughly converting roadmap to WordPress 2.8 Development process. One reason of Starting WordPress 2.8 Development so early is many things got left from WordPress 2.7 due to time constraints. But now WordPress Team want to start WordPress 2.8 developer early so that all those left out futures as well as new ideas can be implemented successfully.

List of Top Priorities for WordPress 2.8

1. Widget management,

2. Theme browser/installer

3. Performance upgrades.

4. Bug tickets and additional features/enhancements from a prioritized list

WordPress Development Team has setup Survey for Prioritizing Potential Feature Ranking for WordPress 2.8.

So start participating in survey and contribute towards WordPress 2.8 development.

    These wordpress guys are rolling out too much releases, though they are concerned with our privacy and security. I am still using wordpress 2.6 as it’s really hard to upgrade to latest version.

    Moreover I think the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin doesn’t allow us to update to 2.7. Correct me if I am wrong.

    I personally think that better support for themes should be included on the next wordpress release. They have been using the same two sample themes for to long and it would be great if more themes came as standard.

    my upgrade from 2.6.2 to 2.7 took less than 5 mins including the download
    I did deactivate all my plugins first – getting them back working took a any hour and a half.
    Remember to do an export of the contents first in case of problems.
    Check you are using php 4.3+ pref 5.x first

    Basically it was p.easy – Bite the Bullet.
