Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is the smaller version of the popular Xperia X10 smartphone. The Xperia X8 is a budget handset which originally runs on the Android 1.6 operating system. Sony Ericsson has not even released an Android 2.1 or Android 2.2 update for this handset. Using the latest Android 2.3 OS on this handset is a dream for most of the Xperia X8 users. But the guys at XDA, has finally turned this dream into a reality.
The developers at XDA has released the CyanogenMod-based custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM for the Sony Xperia X8. Now the Xperia X8 users can easily experience the Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) OS on their handset. As usual, some features works perfectly and some features does not work at all.
Currently, Cellular radio and data, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the notification LED are working perfectly, while the audio service, FM radio, camera, light sensor and proximity sensors does not work perfectly. Before trying this, users must note that, even though CM7 is quite stable, they might have to face some issues. If you are planning to try the Android 2.3 on your Xperia X8 handset, then just head over to this thread at XDA.
