I Got Laid off From Company … Thanks Recession !!!

Depression Got Laid Off From Work

Today is really bad day of my life. I got laid off from my company. This was shocking for me Since My Company works for domestic market and i was quite sure that my job is secure and won’t get affected by ongoing recession but i was wrong. Yesterday i got the news about company lying off some employees and i got strong sense that I will be one of them.

Today when i took a train to reach to my Lower Parel office, i got a SMS from my team leader asking me to come to fort office of our company. This SMS made clear indication of my layoff. When i reached to my office everything looked normal and my team leader was talking like usual. But at 10’o clock i was called by my team leader and another project manager who started asking me about my personal development & some other question and at the end he gave final words “You Need to Resign from Your Job”.

After hearing this I got totally numb for a some time, I did asked them to let me complete 1 year with company (sort of 3 month) or give me some other option but they denied and asked me to resign today, giving 30 days notice period or else they will terminate me if I don’t resign by myself.

I knew IT can never give job security. But still I had never felt insecure about my future but today’s incident has increased my worries about my future and my family, I am feeling little insecure now. I had left my previous job with HDFC Bank to join this company but now I am feeling that it was wrong decision.

I don’t know what I will do now, being one of strong financial backbone of my family this job loss is going to create economical imbalance at my home. I can’t even let my parents to know I have lost my job. My wife and elder brother knows about this Let’s see if I can manage to get another job within this 30 days notice period.

I have little savings which can let me to live without job for about 3 months. This blog has just started earning and I am yet to see it as steady income. As of now I still can’t rely on my blog nor i can accept it as my full time job but still This blog is the only Hope for me

Maybe you could do some Wordpress consulting – customizing CognoBlue? Put some ads on your site, maybe a donate button (since you make a great WP Theme). I know the feeling, I work as an independent consultant, haven’t had a full time client since before summer.

If your’e interested in off-shore WP consulting, drop me a mail. I have some ideas (but they won’t give an immediate income)

I hope you didn’t resign. Many states have different rules about unemployment coverage, but I think if you resign, you get different benefits.

I also hope you’ve been saving money, an emergency fund should have at least three to six months of living expenses in it.

@CARL Till the time i get another job i have to get some alternative source of income i may try WP Consulting but i hardly see it can support my living. will contact you thru email.

@MICHAEL CLARK i have to resign from job if i don’t then my company will terminate me and this surly have negative impact on my career. Here in India we don’t get any unemployment coverage. I do have emergency fund to support me for 3 month of living.

On other part this blog has started generating income which is equal to my salary so might continue with Blogging but i feel little insecure with blog.

Believe me, I fully understand. I got the ax as well. Two Months running of being out of work and the stupid things I’ve been going through with companies to land work, It amazes me how bad things have gotten in this country.

I don’t know where you are, but if you are in the U.S. you should never be convinced to resign without some sort of buyout. Companies do that to avoid paying you benefits after you leave.

I might could use a customer wordpress design if you want to email me, but I’m not exactly loaded, myself. Maybe we can work something out. I’d like to help and really could use a custom design.

Hello Sandip
Sad to hear that. Its tough time, and faith really helps to get along such phases.
As you said blogging and IM don’t have any guaranteed stability, but then software jobs are not very secure these days.
Your blog traffic and revenue looks decent. Try to work on the same line of action. I am sure revenue and traffic will increase with time.
To be honest, 6 months or an year is not a very duration for a blog to get established. So you can give a bit more time and see how things are going.

Apart from blogging you can try to provide some online services. As you have mentioned on your blog that you have interest in SEO. Its a hot field and there is lot of potential. Try to develop a business model based on your skills and knowledge.

Cheers.

P.S. came to this post through labnol forums.

Sorry to hear that but dont lose hope. I always follow one rule in my life which i suggest everyone to do, No matter what you do in u r life, please have a backup, especially the job-goers. I work for IBM and as u know that none of the jobs are secured so I do Referral Marketing aside which has a good potential and also its a recession-proof, Iam not suggesting you to do this only, anything which can build a pipeline of income to you…
