You DO NOT require iTunes 8.0 to update your iPhone to the new 2.2 Firmware! I use 7.7.1.11 and successfully updated without iTunes 8.0.

The 2.2 iPhone syncs great with 7.7.1.11 !

I am concerned with the warning message at start of iPhone 2.2 update that says (I am paraphasing here) “all pictures and songs will be erased prior to installing the 2.2 update…”. Do we need to anything prior to the update to protect the photos and music?
