Try Out Opera Mini In Ubuntu

You must have seen plenty of ways to run Opera Mini in Windows XP or Windows 7 (yes, we are not talking about mobiles here). Want to experience the same thing on Ubuntu? The process to run it on Windows and Ubuntu is almost same with the same software application required for emulation, but still we will take you through the required steps.

The first thing for you to check before everything else is that, you have a version of Java runtime installed. If yes, you are good to go.

• First of all download Microemu. This is an emulator for Java platform Micro Edition (Java ME). Once downloaded, extract it inside a folder. Enter that folder and right click on microemulator.jar and give it permission to execute from the permissions tab. Also set Java as the default application to open .jar files.
• Now download any version of Opera Mini that you want to try out. Remember to download both .jar and .jad files.
• Now open the Microemulator by double-clicking on it. The window size can be resized to your wish, so do not worry about it.Click on File-> Open MIDIet and  choose Opera Mini.jad that you downloaded. (remember .jad not .jar).

  Opera Mini will now be listed in the apps list. You click on Start button to launch it.

Most obvious question that comes with this implementation of mobile browser is: The use of all this hassle? For countries like India where some people are still on dial-up or intolerable Internet connections, this can help in fast web browsing. Also, you can fiddle with any Java app before installing it on your phone and thus can minimize the risk.
