Apple iOS 4.1 Beta to improve signal bar display on iPhone has been released to iPhone developers; this could be shortest time when two iPhone firmwares has been released by Apple and this could also result in shortest unlock for iPhone if Apple patches the exploit used by Ultrasn0w 0.93 to unlock iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G/3GS.

So it’s important for you to stay away from iOS 4.1 until iPhone dev team releases their unlock & jailbreak tools officially. Meanwhile if you are developer of apps for jailbroken iphones, can go ahead & update to iOS 4.1 and jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G with Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5.

WARNING: Do not try this method on final iOS 4.1 released on September 8th (check above update to jailbreak ios 4.1 final release). We will not be responsible for issues you may face by following below method, proceed at your own risk.

The guide was published for jailbreaking iOS 4.1 Beta 1 developer version on iPod Touch 2G.

iPod Touch 2G users can follow below guide to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPod Touch 2G non-mc model.

How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G 4.1 iOS with Redsn0w

1. Download iOS 4.0 for iPod Touch 2G

2. Download iOS 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G (Needs Apple iPhone developer account)

3. Download iTunes 9.2

4. Download Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5

Update: It seems many of you dont want to read entire article and blaming us for jailbreak not working. Hence we have removed all download links. If you still want to jailbreak your iPod Touch iOS 4.1 then make sure you read update part at the end of this article.

5. Update iPod Touch 2G to iOS 4.1 (Check out how to manually update iPod Touch)

6. Once you have updated iPod Touch 2G to iOS 4.1 start Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5.

7. Click on Browse button and select iPod Touch 4.0 firmware for iPod Touch 2G (note it’s not iOS 4.1 but 4.0 ipsw file)(iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw) downloaded in step 1.

8. Now Click on next and Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta will prepare data for jailbreak.

9. Now select “Install Cydia” and if you want you can activate Multitasking, Battery Percentage & Homescreen wallpaper and click Next.

10. Now follow onscreen instructions and complete iPod Touch 2G 4.1 jailbreak process.

Your iPod Touch may reboot several time once completed add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 repo to Cydia. Now enjoy your jailbroken iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1 !!!

    Hey I am trying to jailbreak my iTouch 2G and I go and download all files from everything i have read. 4.0 firmware and 4.0.2 firmware. I run redsnow and then click browse. When I click the firmware it goes threw. But instead of saying it recognizes it it says, ” Unable to recognize specified IPSW.”
    !!PLEASE HELP ME!!

    So far everything is working but cydia.. I tried to enter the repo several times and it keeps saying the same thing. Something about it maybe being a legacy repo (not supported) and other stuff. What am I doing wrong?

    Right now On IPod touch 2G if you jailbreak with redsn0w
    1.Voice recorder won’t work,
    2. Internet won’t work

    There is no known jailbreak for iOS 4.1 yet so if you update to iOS 4.1 you need to wait until the devs update redsn0w

    Just downgrade to iOS 4.0 and use redsn0w

    4.0.2 jb > updated to 4.1 via itunes > jb 4.1 via redsn0w > wifi not working at every possible method > downgraded to 4.0.2 > jb 4.0.2 via redsn0w > restored from backup > everything’s back to normal.

    alright guys first of all i would like to tell you guyz to……STAY AWAY FROM THIS STUPID JAILBREAK. this thing stuffed up ym ipod, I had nothing except youtube, voice memo, weather and stocks and two game apps. Alright so you do everything fine it installs jailbreak fine, pineapple symbol and then finally cydia(except in white).Click on it “Reorganizing” bullshit comes up and screen goes black and back to homescreen and all gone. (except the thing i mentioned above) Jailbreak for 4.1 for 2g has still not been released accroding to my jailbreak specialist friend and he managed to insert device into safe mode and fix everything up. I repeat DO NOT JAILBREAK WITH THIS!! DO NOT It will comepletely stuff up your itouch and i am very lucky that i had a specialist help me out. Best way is to get ipod in safe mode. I cant remmeber exactly but i think you hold down power button and home button. press both until message appears release home button for 10 seconds and press both again or sumthin. Cant exactly rmemeber but type in how to go into safe mode in google. Good lucky any1 with this problem :D

    Cam anyone tell the procedure to downgrade back to iOS 4.0.2. I jailbroke to 4.1 and now WiFi doesn’t work on top of it iTunes cannot restore to any version incl 3.1.2, 3.1.3 or 4 or 4.0.2.

    Any suggestions are really appreciated. Please help me out.

    to restore your itouch go to the options and you can restore it from there the computer won’t let you restore from itunes

    If you are stuck on this faulty break and cannot shut down follow these instructions to restore.

    1. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button. (the power off option will appear, ignore it)
    2. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button (keep holding the home button.)
    3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can now let go of the home button.)
    4. Open iTunes .
    5. iTunes should automatically recognize your iPod once the image comes up, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in.
    6. Restore your iPod by clicking the “Restore” button.

    This will make your ipod restore and work with itunes

    This worked i just tried it on my wife’s itouch 2g, and good thing it did work or else, lol.
    But yeah i tried this and it worked perfectly. I tried another program just before and it wasn’t as successful but this worked first try. And the improvement over the previous version is that the Wifi do work great.

    i found a way to fix this…connect ipod into computer via usb, put in DFU mode
    1. Hold Sleep and Home for 10 sec.
    2. Release sleep, but keep holding Home for 10 sec.
    then you can restore in itunes

    This totally ruined my iPod. Wifi and Curia weren’t working an I couldn’t even shut it off.
    And I tried restoring but iTunes wouldn’t even let me =/
    SO here’s a solution for those of you want to ‘undo’ the jailbreak.
    On the iPod/iPhone go to settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings.
    Of course, everything you have on the device will be deleted so I suggest making a backup if you can.
    This just removed this piece of crap jailbreak and now my wifi works again.
    I suggest waiting until a newer jailbreak for 4.1 is released by devteam. It’s supposed to come soon.

    They have released a version that can Jailbreak iO.S 4.1 (final release), Redsnow 0.9.6 b1. This Jailbreak is CURRENTLY for iPhone 3G or iPod 2G users, and CURRENTLY only for Mac. The team is updating it to be compatible with other iDevices, and working out the bugs for the Windows version.

    download the new redsnow 0.9.6 and the over-jailbreak it
    if u can’t turn it off (if redsnow says to) turn it into dfu-mode already and then click next. This will fix it!

    Hi. I upgraded my ipod 2g from 3.1.2 to 4.1. I jailbroke it using Redsn0w 0.9.6 B1. But it is not working correctly. I can’t save anything! Good Reader is unable to transfer PDF file, none of my games are able to save. Is this a known problem?

    open redsn0w and browse your version of your ipod and after this… you can see 5 choice: instal cydia, install custom budle bla bla bla
    you clic just boot tethered right now and thats it!

    I figured it out. When you go to select the ipsw in redsn0w, don’t use the 4.0 version like the instructions suggest; use the 4.1. Works perfectly.

    I just jailbroke my ipod touch 2G, Heres a tip if you dont want it tethered to redsn0w, download the 4.2.1 or just update it in itunes, Once you do that use greenpois0n it works alot quicker, and doesnt tether your ipod, just make sure you follow the directions. I hope this helped :]
