How to Jailbreak iOS 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 Custom Firmware Method

If you are mac user then you have quite few options like Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 & Pwnagetool 4.0.1 to jailbreak iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3GS & iPhone 3G. Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 is also available for Windows but it can’t jailbreak iPhone 3GS 4.0 and you have to rely on custom firmware  for iOS 4.0.

Well now with release of Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 you don’t have to, Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 is like Pwnagetool 4.0.1 for Mac. Using sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 you can create custom firmware on Windows and jailbreak your iPhone3G/ 3GS 4.0 (old boorom) & iPod Touch 2G 4.0 iOS.

The options provided by sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 are similar to Pwnagetool, you can activate multitasking, custom recovery logo, unlock etc. Once again we are back with complete step by step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS 4.0 iOS using Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 on Windows (custom firmware method).

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 on Windows

1. Download iPhone 3GS 4.0 Firmware / iPhone 3GS 4.0 Firmware.

2. Download iTunes 9.2

3. Download Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 for Windows

4. Put everything in one folder and name is “ios4.0”

5. Now Start sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 and click “blue arrow” and select “simple mode” and continue.

If you select expert mode you will be able to get thru many options include ability to install custom boot/recovery logo etc.

6. Now browse and select iOS 4.0 ipsw file downloaded in step 1 for your respective device.

7. Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 will process 4.0 ipsw and will verify select ipsw file.

8. Now click on Blue arrow icon and wait for Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 to complete processing.

9. Click yes/ no if you want to activate iPhone.

10. Let Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 to complete rest of its process

11. Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 will show the message once it has done, now select whether your iPhone 3G is jailbroken  or not.

12. Now connect your iPhone 3G and enter in Recovery mode after that launch itunes and hold down shit while clicking the restore button on iTunes.

13. Now let iTunes complete installing iOS 4.0 custom firmware on your iPhone 3G/3GS.

Once your iPhone restarts, the jailbreak process will complete, now enjoy your jailbroken iPhone 3G/3GS 4.0.

    Figured it out… I was on 4.0 just needed to cache sauriks server and downgrade to 3.1.2 jailbreak with redsnow win_0.9.4 first round used yes to mc model then just booted the iphone second round I said no to mc model and installed cydia… Then go into I tunes and shift click restore snowbreeze 4.0 cooked firmware… I was previously jailbroken on 3.1.3 with spirit so even if you are you can still use this!!! Hope this helps…

    I am going to try it tonight:

    1. i’ll update itunes from 9.0 to 9.2
    2. i’ll do the OS updated from 3.1.3 to 4.0
    3. i’ll Jailbreak using sn0wbreeze 1.6.1
    4. i’ll unlock using ultrasn0w from repo666
    5. i’ll modify some files using iFile downloaded from Cydia so i’ll enable multitasking and home screen

    lets hope its goes fine
    By the way my iPhone info are:
    3G 16Gb
    3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01 bootloader 4.09
    its currently Jailbroken by Spirit and currier unlocked by ultrasn0w

    Please guys if anyone has done it the same way am doing it, and faced problems warn me …

    but i get the point. which that i where on DFU mode but i must be on RECOVERY mode.

    sn0wbreeze isnt exactly working for me. I cannot restore to the custom firmware using itunes. error 1604. i got 2 iphones both 3gs, one is old bootrom and the other new.

    i updated my iphone 3gd old boot to 4.0 updated itunes to 9.2 and downloaded sn0wbreez after that when i was putting my 3gs in recovery mode and lunched itunes to restore the process started but after 30 sec an error occurred error 1600
    any help

    I need some explanation. I can understand this isn’t going to be fullproof, and it’s still a beta version of sn0wbreeze. But I cannot get my iPhone 3Gs to restore to the custom firmware. I opted for the custom installation, instead of simple, I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.

    I also had tried to make the custom firmware once earlier, but then hit cancel because it had seemed as if it was frozen. I might have corrupted the ipsw I used to create the custom firmware. I did choose new bootlogo’s as well, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

    The error it’s popping out at me is that it could not initiate restore mode or something to that effect. Basically it would extract the ipsw, then it would reboot the iphone, show the custom boot logo, then it would try to install the firmware, the silver apple and the empty progress bar would show up, but it would remain blank for a minute, and then the error would pop up on itunes.

    I tried twice getting it to restore, the first was with sn0wbreeze open, and the second without. I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not. It never prompted me to leave sn0wbreeze open.

    i have a 3gs. sn0wbreeze worked just fine but when my phone starts, there is no cydia installed! what happend? I’ve trying doing sn0wbreeze more than once with the same result.

    While sn0wbreeze was verifying the .ipsw I’ve got a notice that said it was detected that this device cannot be jailbroken unless it is already jailbroken. Is that it? Do I need to ignore it since this tutorial doesn’t clarify that?

    My iphone is a 3GS MC model with the week of the year it was made lower than 40. Someone knows whether it has new bootrom or not?

    i have an iphone 3gs old boot rom!
    i tried restoring the iphone but get an error saying “error 1600″
    i noticed that others are getting the same error
    why isnt there any solution available yet?

    and FYI my old 3.1.2 firmware previously jailbroken with blackrain
    is corrupted and stuck on the apple logo which is the reason why i was updating it in the first place
    but now i get this error 1600 message
    Please help!!!

    i upgraded my iphone 3gs MC model it to Ios4. There was no shsh save anywhere and locked. I am stuck now to get it jailbreak and unlock can anybody give me suggestion here what to do.Right now it is on emergency calls so basically cant do anything.Solution required ???

    Hey guys, i’ve got the error but i solved it..

    after making the custem frimware , Just press home button n plug ur ihpone then complete the restoring steps.. Don’t forget to take a back-up for ur ihpone..

    yes ignore that massage “has detect ur…” just get over it xD

    ,,, for whom got no Cydia , try to make another custem ,, just choose simple mode :)

    To whom using iphone 3G, feel free to update your iphone to 4.0 and you will have it jailbroken or unlocked easily, but for someone who are using 3GS, you should not do this. It does not work at all, if you try this, you are gonna make your die. Be patient and keep waiting for the new solution come out for 3GS

    So this will work with a 3GS on apple firmware 4.0.1?
    Step 6 asks you to browsw for the ipsw of 4.0… but if have my iphone on 4.0.1, do i browse for the 4.0 or the the 4.0.1 ipsw?

    I have now successfully upgraded my 3GS from 3.1.2 (old bootrom 359.3) to 4.0. It was previously jailbreaked with Blackra1n.

    I was also receiving the 1600 error until I figured out that I needed to be in RECOVERY MODE. Now everything works :)

    holding down “shift” in itunes does nothing for me. when i restore i get back to square 1 saying iphone needs to have a sim card in it to activate…. HELP!!!!

    i have jailbreak my iphone 3gs 3.1.3 newbotrom using spirit.
    i use tiny umbrella 4.1.13 to save my shsh files but unfortunately i didnt save for the 4.0 version. it only save’s for the 4.1 version.
    can i still get the 4.0 firmware on my iphone?
    how to jailbreak on ios4.1? any recommendation?
